Job summary

Addition is seeking a senior TechOps Engineer to own an Azure-hosted platform, stabilise operations, and drive modernization. This remote UK role focuses on security, reliability and automation across the stack.

You will manage production on RHEL, tune performance, lead major incident investigations, and collaborate with security, SOC, NOC and development teams. The position includes on-call rotations and disaster recovery readiness.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in TechOps, Infrastructure, SRE or Production Operations within complex production environments.
• Strong hands-on Azure experience, including VMs, networking, security, load balancing and cloud platform services.
• Experience supporting Java/Spring Boot microservices and associated middleware in live production environments.
• Strong analytical and debugging skills across infrastructure, applications, networking and databases.
• Advanced Elasticsearch/Elastic Stack experience with JVM monitoring and performance analysis.
• Practical experience with Terraform, GitHub Actions and Ansible, plus Python and Bash scripting.
• Proven experience managing major incidents, conducting root cause analysis and implementing permanent fixes.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of Azure-hosted infrastructure, ensuring environments remain stable, secure and reliable.
• Manage and support production environments, with hands-on RHEL administration, patching, performance tuning and security hardening.
• Act as a senior escalation point for complex L2/L3 incidents, leading investigations and long-term fixes.
• Troubleshoot issues across the full technology stack from OS and networking to Java applications, middleware and databases.
• Support Java and Spring Boot microservices, investigating JVM performance, memory and GC concerns.
• Drive vulnerability remediation across cloud infrastructure, operating systems and middleware.
• Collaborate with Security, SOC, NOC and development teams to manage incidents and improve operational resilience.
• Automate infrastructure and deployment processes using Terraform, GitHub Actions and Ansible.
• Develop and maintain centralized monitoring, logging and observability through Elastic Stack and related tools.
• Take responsibility for backup processes, restore testing and disaster recovery readiness.
• Participate in a structured 24/7 on-call rotation.
• Manage incidents, problems and changes through Jira Service Management.
• Build and maintain technical documentation, runbooks and dashboards.
• Help modernise the platform through automation and AI-assisted tooling.

We’re working with a technology-driven business operating a high-availability digital platform, where performance, security and reliability are critical. This is an opportunity to take ownership of an established Azure environment, stabilise its operations and play a key role in modernising the platform.

Role Overview

• Location: Remote - Based in the UK
• Duration: ASAP start until end of March 2027

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Take ownership of Azure-hosted infrastructure, ensuring environments remain stable, secure and reliable.
• Manage and support production environments, with hands-on RHEL administration, patching, performance tuning and security hardening.
• Act as a senior escalation point for complex L2/L3 incidents, leading investigations, root cause analysis and long-term fixes.
• Troubleshoot issues across the full technology stack, from operating systems and networking through to Java applications, middleware and databases.
• Support Java and Spring Boot microservices, investigating JVM performance, memory, garbage collection, thread and latency issues.
• Drive vulnerability remediation across cloud infrastructure, operating systems and middleware.
• Work closely with Security, SOC, NOC and development teams to manage incidents and improve operational resilience.
• Automate infrastructure and deployment processes using Terraform, GitHub Actions and Ansible.
• Develop and maintain centralised monitoring, logging and observability through the Elastic Stack and supporting tools.
• Take responsibility for backup processes, restore testing and disaster recovery readiness.
• Participate in a structured 24/7 on-call rotation.
• Manage incidents, problems and changes through Jira Service Management.
• Build and maintain technical documentation, operational runbooks and dashboards.
• Help modernise the platform through automation and AI-assisted tooling, ensuring all changes are properly reviewed and controlled.

Main Skills Needed:

• Experience: 8+ years in TechOps, Infrastructure, SRE or Production Operations within complex production environments.
• Cloud & Infrastructure: Strong hands-on Azure experience, including VMs, networking, security, load balancing and cloud platform services.
• Operating Systems: Extensive production experience administering and maintaining RHEL environments.
• Java & Middleware: Experience supporting Java/Spring Boot microservices and associated middleware in live production environments.
• Troubleshooting: Strong analytical and debugging skills, with the ability to investigate complex issues across infrastructure, applications, networking and databases.
• Observability: Advanced Elasticsearch and Elastic Stack experience, alongside strong JVM monitoring and performance analysis skills.
• Automation & DevOps: Practical experience with Terraform, GitHub Actions and Ansible, plus Python and Bash scripting.
• Incident Management: Proven experience managing major incidents, conducting root cause analysis and implementing permanent fixes. ITIL knowledge would be beneficial.
• Security: Experience with vulnerability remediation, access management and production security controls.
• Resilience: Understanding of backup, recovery, high availability and disaster recovery processes.
• Communication: Confident working across technical teams and communicating effectively during incidents and operational changes.
• Industry Experience: Background in gaming or another regulated, high-availability digital environment would be advantageous.
