Job summary

A local government authority in England is looking for a Highway Authority officer to manage and maintain the highway. The successful candidate will categorize and prioritize work, manage customer inquiries, and facilitate road works scheduling. About the Role

As a Highway Authority, Leicestershire County Council has statutory responsibility to manage, maintain and repair the highway across the County. As part of delivering this duty the Council must plan, schedule and undertake road works. These works must be undertaken in accordance with other relevant legislation and codes of practice, such as permit schemes.

In this role you will support the delivery of the Council's responsibility by categorising, creating and prioritising work's instructions, managing customer enquiries and facilitating the scheduling of road works.

The nature of the work may involve the post holder carrying out work outside of normal working hours or at different locations than their designated base.

About You

To apply for this post, you must:

  • You have an NVQ3 or equivalent, i.e. BTEC in Civil Engineering or A-Levels A-C in relevant subjects OR extensive demonstrable experience as identified below, together with a commitment to attain the essential qualifications and evidence of continued learning and development
  • You have experience of accurately capturing, storing and retrieving information to meet customer and organisational needs and of interpreting and writing technical and non-technical reports and providing technical advice or drawings.
  • You have experience of engaging with customers, including attending and producing materials for meetings and exhibitions and responding effectively to customer and service centre enquiries
  • You can use route optimisation and tracking software to optimise resources
  • You have knowledge of current highways legislation relevant to the service area, CDM regulations and of current highway design standards, construction techniques, asset management principles or maintenance standards.
  • You have good verbal and written communication skills, organisational skills and the ability to prioritise work. Also good IT skills, including the ability to learn the use of service specific systems and software. You can interpret maps, plans and engineering drawings.
