Oxford Instruments Materials Analysis in High Wycombe is seeking a Technician for hands-on assembly of complex scientific instruments in a precision manufacturing environment.

The role involves building to exact specifications, following procedures, interpreting drawings and supporting continuous improvement, safety, and quality standards while collaborating with production and engineering teams.

Qualifications

• Experience in a manufacturing, assembly, engineering or technician role.
• Ability to interpret mechanical drawings.
• Strong attention to detail and a quality-focused mindset.
• Understanding of Lean manufacturing principles and 5S practices is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Build and assemble products in line with quality standards and manufacturing procedures.
• Manage workload against production plans and delivery schedules.
• Follow standard operating procedures and quality processes.
• Interpret and work from mechanical drawings and technical documentation.
• Support continuous improvement activities, including 5S and Lean manufacturing initiatives.
• Maintain accurate inventory and work-in-progress records.
• Monitor build quality and resolve issues.
• Work safely and ensure compliance with Health & Safety requirements.
• Collaborate across the manufacturing team.
• Mentor junior technicians where required.

The Opportunity

We're looking for a Technician who enjoys hands‑on assembly work, takes pride in quality craftsmanship, and thrives in a precision manufacturing environment.

Working as part of our manufacturing team, you'll be responsible for building complex scientific instruments to exact specifications, ensuring quality, delivery and performance standards are consistently achieved. You'll work closely with colleagues across production and engineering while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives and maintaining the high standards our customers expect.

This role would suit someone with previous manufacturing, engineering, assembly or technician experience who enjoys problem solving, working with precision components and seeing a finished product leave the factory knowing they've played a key part in its success.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and assemble products in line with quality standards and manufacturing procedures.
• Manage your workload against production plans and agreed delivery schedules.
• Follow standard operating procedures and quality processes.
• Interpret and work from mechanical drawings and technical documentation.
• Support continuous improvement activities, including 5S and Lean manufacturing initiatives.
• Maintain accurate inventory and work‑in‑progress records.
• Monitor build quality and resolve issues where appropriate.
• Work safely and ensure compliance with Health & Safety requirements.
• Collaborate effectively with colleagues across the manufacturing team.
• Support and mentor junior technicians where required.

What We're Looking For

• Experience in a manufacturing, assembly, engineering or technician role.
• Ability to interpret mechanical drawings.
• Strong attention to detail and a quality‑focused mindset.
• Experience working within health and safety guidelines.
• Understanding of Lean manufacturing principles and 5S practices is advantageous.
• A recognised engineering qualification, apprenticeship or NVQ is beneficial.
• Positive, proactive attitude with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
