The University of Nottingham is inviting applications for a full-time permanent technical position in the Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering (CEE). The purpose of this role is to provide a high level of specialist technical support to the teaching and research laboratories. Within this inspiring environment, you will organise and supervise the highly utilised laboratories, with support from other technical colleagues. Responsibilities will include maintenance of laboratories and equipment, management of laboratory health and safety, liaising with colleagues on the design and content of new laboratory experiments, and providing teaching support. The role has significant manual handling involved, including taking delivery of gas cylinders and transportation of chemicals and equipment.
The role holder will join our team of highly skilled technical staff to play an integral part in the supervision and maintenance of laboratories within the department, whilst ensuring that core infrastructure is maintained.
We are seeking a positive and proactive individual, able to work with minimal supervision to develop novel solutions to problems and engage in new opportunities and challenges. Applicants will require experience of working in a chemistry or chemical engineering laboratory environment, can learn new techniques and transfer knowledge of theory and practice to others. They will have a capacity to understand and identify the technical and experimental needs of staff and students, and possess good computer skills. A health and safety qualification would be an advantage, while strong general technical and problem-solving skills are essential.
