Job summary

A regional educational institution in Newtown is seeking a Technician in Carpentry & Joinery. This temporary position involves providing technical support, maintaining workshop safety, and assisting learners.   • Participate in risk assessments of practical activities.

Education

Level 2 qualification in a relevant discipline
Level 2 qualifications in both English and Maths (GCSE or equivalent)

Job description
Technician in Carpentry & Joinery

To provide technical support across the curriculum area of the school of Construction & Built Environment (in Carpentry & Joinery). This is a temporary position for 30 hours per week, based in Newtown.

Responsibilities
  • To be responsible for maintaining an appropriate practical working environment for teaching and learning;
  • To prepare materials, tools and equipment for use;
  • To check, maintain and where possible repair equipment;
  • To maintain a clean, safe and well‑organised environment in the workshop;
  • To maintain stock levels and provide accurate and current inventories of tools, equipment and materials;
  • To assist in supervising learners within the workshop;
  • To help organise the issue and return of tools, equipment and materials to users;
  • To participate in risk assessments of practical activities.
Qualifications

Candidates should hold a level 2 qualification in a relevant discipline, level 2 qualifications in both English and Maths (GSCE or equivalent) and be IT literate to level 2. Candidates should also have relevant experience. The ability to operate and maintain machinery equipment and a knowledge of Health and Safety requirements are essential.

Compliance & Registration

Candidates must be fully compliance checked prior to commencement including references, enhanced DBS and must be registered with EWC as Further Education Support Worker.
