Job summary

EMAS is seeking a qualified Technician to join on a job-share basis at Scunthorpe Ambulance station. The successful candidate will provide urgent and non-urgent patient transport and on-scene care using IHCD standards and Trust protocols.

You must be a Qualified Technician with Emergency Ambulance Driving Qualification, possess a full clean driving licence, and demonstrate communication, teamwork, and resilience. Commitment to training and equality values is essential.

Qualifications

  • Must be a Qualified Technician and eligible to work as an Emergency Ambulance Technician.
  • Emergency Ambulance Driving Qualification required or willing to obtain.
  • Full clean driving licence including Category A (old style) or Categories B & C1 (new style).
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and equality.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality clinical care and transportation of patients in line with IHCD standards.
  • Attend emergency calls and planned transfers with advanced driving skills under blue light and normal conditions.
  • Lead clinician role when crewed with another EMS professional and coordinate patient pathways.
  • Adhere to Trust protocols, document care appropriately, and maintain patient safety at all times.

  • Competence: Continually developing and improving competence, As a Technician, you will provide appropriate care, treatment and transportation of all categories of patients (including emergency and non-emergency cases) using the highest quality of skills and promoting the safety and well-being of patients at all times. To provide this care in accordance with the Institute of Health and Care Development (IHCD) standards and within the scope of the Trusts protocols and procedures.

As an Technician, attend cases of accident and sudden illness and respond to urgent, special and planned patient transfer requests. To use advanced driving skills under blue light and normal traffic conditions to respond to emergency and routine calls as required. To assist in the delivery of high quality and effective clinical and personal care and the transportation of patients, selecting and applying appropriate equipment and skills in line with the scope of practice and associated training. Please refer to the attached documents for the job description and person specification for the specific job roles (Technician) You must be already working as a Qualified Technician to apply for this position. You will serve your community responding to 999 calls as part of an emergency ambulance crew. You will deal with a range of different people and situations and use clinical guidelines to manage and direct patients to the most appropriate care pathway., This role requires motivation, commitment and personal resilience as well as an ability to reflect and seek feedback on clinical practice. You must have excellent communication skills, be friendly and work well within a team. It is important to be reliable and punctual in your work due to the nature of an emergency service and the need to respond promptly to incidents/calls. A commitment to continual professional development is also essential due to the evolving nature of emergency and urgent care. You must also embrace and promote equality, diversity and inclusivity in your role and at every opportunity.You will be required to make clinical decisions as a Technician and will be the lead clinician if crewed up with an Emergency Ambulance Associate, which will enable you to provide patients with potentially life‑saving care at the scene as well as linking patients with alternative care pathways within the community.
