dBs Institute in Manchester is seeking a Technician for flexible, part-time work to support our studios, venues, and teaching spaces. You will join the Technical Operations team and work with the Head Technician and Technical Manager to ensure spaces are safe, well maintained, and ready for use.
You’ll provide hands-on support to students and staff, troubleshoot and maintain AV and music technology equipment, and contribute to equipment loans and event setups.

Are you a live sound engineer, studio engineer, producer, gigging musician, AV technician or music technology specialist looking for reliable, flexible work that fits around your professional practice?
As a Technician, you'll join our Technical Operations team, working alongside the Head Technician, Technical Manager and Head of Campus to keep our studios, performance venue, rehearsal rooms and other technical spaces safe, well maintained and ready for use.
You'll be a key point of contact for students and staff, providing practical, hands-on technical support and helping students get the most from our equipment and facilities. The role is varied and collaborative, with plenty of opportunity to bring your own professional experience and technical expertise into an educational environment.
Your day-to-day could include:
We have several permanent, part-time positions available, with working patterns agreed around campus requirements and your availability. You'll work up to four shifts per week, covering a mix of daytime, evening and weekend shifts, with the rota confirmed at the start of each study block so you know your working pattern in advance.
We also offer term-time-only positions, giving you your summers free. This makes the role particularly well suited to professionals who tour, work festivals, take on freelance projects or want to focus on their own music and creative practice during the summer. It could also be a great fit for recent graduates in music technology, engineering or performance looking for reliable work alongside their own practice and career development.
And importantly, we're not looking for one person who can do everything. We welcome applications from people with a range of technical specialisms, whether your background is in live sound, studio engineering and production, AV, instrument maintenance, recording or music technology. We're interested in what you do well and the experience you can bring to our students and technical team.
