Oxford Nanopore Technologies is seeking a Technical Writer to own the documentation portfolio for sequencing devices across the product lifecycle. You will produce and maintain customer-facing and regulatory content within a controlled environment, partnering with Engineering, Product, Quality, and Regulatory Affairs teams.

The role requires a strong technical background, 3+ years writing for scientific instruments or regulated products, and a focus on accuracy and compliance to support product

Qualifications

  • Degree in Engineering or related technical discipline.
  • Experience writing technical docs for scientific instruments or regulated devices.
  • Familiarity with quality-management environments (ISO 9001/13485).
  • Ability to translate complex concepts for customers and regulators.
  • Strong written communication and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Produce user manuals and technical specifications for sequencing devices.
  • Create Quick Start Guides and regulatory documentation (IQ/OQ/IPV).
  • Maintain documentation within a controlled quality system and change-control processes.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Product, Quality, Regulatory Affairs and R&D teams.
  • Support usability testing with UX and manage content in CMS.

The Role

As Technical Writer, you’ll take ownership of the documentation portfolio for Oxford Nanopore’s sequencing devices throughout the product lifecycle. This role sits within a regulated, change-controlled environment and is responsible for producing and maintaining documentation that supports both customers and regulatory compliance activities across our research-use-only, regulated and diagnostic products.

Working closely with Engineering, Product Management, Quality, Regulatory Affairs, R&D and Commercial teams, you’ll ensure documentation is technically accurate, compliant with relevant quality processes and delivered in line with product release timelines. You’ll play a critical role in supporting both customer success and external compliance requirements, requiring exceptional attention to detail and a strong understanding of controlled documentation practices.

In Addition, You’ll
  • Partner with Engineering, Product Management, Product Development, Quality, Regulatory Affairs and customer-facing teams to understand products and customer workflows
  • Produce and maintain documentation within a controlled quality management environment
  • Ensure documentation is accurate, compliant and delivered in line with product release timelines
  • Support documentation activities required for regulatory, compliance and external audit purposes
  • Manage document updates through formal change-control processes
  • Contribute to improving documentation standards, processes and best practices
  • Support usability testing of written content alongside our UX team
  • Work with our content management system and a range of content creation and editing tools
About You

We’re looking for someone with a strong technical background and experience producing documentation for complex products within a regulated or quality-managed environment. You’ll be passionate about creating high-quality documentation that supports both customers and compliance requirements.

Essential Experience
  • Degree in Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Life Sciences or a related technical discipline
  • 3+ years' experience writing technical documentation for scientific instruments, laboratory equipment, medical devices or other regulated products
  • Experience working within a quality-managed and change-controlled environment, such as ISO 9001 or ISO 13485
  • Experience producing documentation that supports regulatory, quality and compliance requirements
  • Exceptional written communication skills and the ability to simplify complex technical concepts
  • Outstanding attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Strong stakeholder management and collaborative working abilities
Desirable Experience
  • PhD in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline
  • Experience supporting products requiring electrical safety, EMC or regulatory compliance documentation
  • Experience working closely with Quality and Regulatory Affairs teams
