Permanent, full-time role

At FCDO Services, we protect the UK’s interests at home and overseas. We design and construct secure government buildings, courier diplomatic packages worldwide, safeguard government tech, and a whole lot more.

Our work is as varied and vital as it gets, but we never lose sight of our people. Their skills, aspirations and growth mean as much as the global mission we're on. In our world, it all matters.

Beyond our worldwide work in construction, logistics, and more, we're also home to the UK National Authority for Counter Eavesdropping (UK NACE). Working at the cutting edge of technology, the teams at UK NACE guard against technical espionage, provide policy advice to the government, investigate threats, and more – all to protect our nation's secrets. Now, you’ve got the opportunity to join them.

Keeping the nation’s secrets, secret.

Working on one-of-a-kind projects.

Vital to national security.

It all matters.

Build and secure our technical equipment, contribute to a safer UK

Technical Equipment Acquisition will be key. You’ll identify, source and purchase new equipment – managing the procurement process and negotiating contracts. Plus, you’ll be responsible for overseeing the maintenance, repair, and upkeep of all technical equipment. This will entail developing maintenance schedules and managing inventory, including maintenance records, usage data and liaising with finance for audit purposes. You’ll manage budgets for equipment maintenance, repairs, and replacements.

Our laboratories, x‑ray facilities, and workshops are high‑risk areas. You’ll ensure that all equipment is risk‑assessed, hazards are managed, technical issues are resolved, and that all is compliant and safe. Across the NACE department, you’ll be a champion for cultural change in ensuring safety, and you’ll be a quorate member of the UK NACE Health and Safety Sub‑Committee. Also, you’ll provide training on the proper use and maintenance of equipment, producing knowledge‑based articles and reference material for users. At times, you’ll manage a team of technicians or other staff involved in equipment maintenance. You’ll be the go‑to person for technical support, answering questions and providing analysis and advice. As well as this, you’ll proactively seek feedback on how equipment is functioning.

When a kit returns from overseas, you’ll look through and test all the kit to make sure that it all works sufficiently and diagnose any issues that may occur, especially those that have not been logged.

We’d like you to propose changes to work processes and procedures, contributing to our culture of continual improvement and efficiency. You’ll maintain your own professional development, reading up on expertise on the latest technologies, best practice to support, and grow defensive capability.

What you’ll bring to the role

To be a good fit, you’ll bring a strong understanding of the technical aspects of the equipment that FCDO Services uses. Your aptitude for problem‑solving means that you’re ready to take on technical issues. Plus, you’re aware of relevant safety regulations and procedures – this is underpinned by a NEBOSH General Certificate, or you’re willing to obtain one.

You’re able to manage multiple tasks, prioritise effectively, and maintain accurate records. Also, you’re comfortable overseeing budgets and making cost‑effective decisions.

To apply, you must hold a Level 3 qualification in Security or Engineering, or alternatively a Level 3 qualification in Physics, Software Development, or Technology.

It would be a plus if you’ve managed a small team before. Effective asset and supply chain management experience would also be good see. As would experience of training or creating documentation for learning. An understanding of Machine Safety, relevant regulations, and the safe use of machinery (ACoP), along with a Level 5 qualification in Security or Engineering, would be desirable. You may be a member of a relevant professional body.
