About the Role

One exciting vacancy has arisen for a Technical Specialist in Forensic Science to manage a suite of labs, the Crime Scene Training Facility, and a small team of technicians. The role involves working with the Forensic Science academic team to support undergraduate and masters level teaching and research projects, in the areas of crime scene investigation and physical evidence examination.

The post holder will be responsible for ensuring that the Forensic Science labs and the Crime Scene Training Facility are kept to the highest standards of Health and Safety, cleanliness, and organisation. Equipment within these spaces (such as DCS5, GL Scan, ESDA etc.) will be maintained and demonstrated to students during practical sessions. Training on equipment for research students and junior staff members will also be undertaken. Excellent communication skills are essential to liaise with the academic team to determine technical requirements, manage the workload of the technical team, and to assist students in the labs where required.

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated individual with relevant experience, either within a higher education/training environment, or industry. Ideally the post holder will have previous managerial experience.

You will also be expected to be flexible and support colleagues and students in other areas of the School of Science and Technology, as part of a School-wide technical team.

Other essential competencies for the job are organisation, leadership, adaptability, and a commitment to a high-quality customer experience.
