Job summary

The Compleat Food Group is seeking an experienced Technical Services Manager for our Middlesbrough site. You will drive food safety, quality, compliance and continuous improvement across operations, leading QA, audits and technical standards within a fast-paced FMCG environment.

You will manage QMS, audit programs and customer requirements, work cross-functionally with production teams, and support NPD from a technical and safety perspective.

Qualifications

• Experience in a food manufacturing or FMCG environment.
• Experience in Technical, QA or Food Safety function.
• Knowledge of food safety systems, HACCP and QMS.
• Experience managing audits, non-conformances and customer requirements.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and ability to influence across all levels of the business.
• HND or Degree in Food Science, Food Technology or related.
• Experience supporting customer audits and retailer requirements.
• Knowledge of UK food legislation and industry standards.

Responsibilities

• Own the site’s technical services function and maintain quality management systems.
• Lead internal audit programmes and drive closure of non-conformances.
• Manage customer complaints, investigations and responses within agreed timescales.
• Support customer and third-party audits and visits.
• Conduct gap analysis against customer requirements, industry standards and codes of practice.
• Chair cross-functional meetings and drive actions to completion.
• Support KPI reporting and technical data submissions.
• Manage specification and document control systems.
• Provide technical support to production teams to resolve quality and raw material issues.
• Support packaging and artwork approval processes.
• Participate in site HACCP and TACCP teams.
• Support new product development from a food safety and technical perspective.
• Manage technical services activities including laboratory testing and results review.
• Promote a strong food safety, quality and health & safety culture onsite.

What You'll Be Doing

Reporting to the Site Head of Technical, you'll take ownership of the site's technical services function, ensuring our quality management systems, customer requirements and food safety standards are maintained and continuously improved.

Key responsibilities include:

• Managing and maintaining the site Quality Management System (QMS)
• Leading internal audit programmes and driving closure of non-conformances
• Managing customer complaints, investigations and responses within agreed timescales
• Supporting customer and third-party audits and visits
• Conducting gap analysis against customer requirements, industry standards and codes of practice
• Chairing cross-functional meetings and driving actions to completion
• Supporting KPI reporting and technical data submissions
• Managing specification and document control systems
• Providing technical support to production teams to resolve quality and raw material issues
• Supporting packaging and artwork approval processes
• Playing an active role within site HACCP and TACCP teams
• Supporting new product development projects from a food safety and technical perspective
• Managing technical services activities including laboratory testing and results review
• Promoting a strong food safety, quality and health & safety culture throughout the site

What We’re Looking For

We're looking for someone who combines strong technical knowledge with excellent organisational and communication skills.

• Previous experience within a food manufacturing or FMCG environment
• Experience working within a Technical, QA or Food Safety function
• Knowledge of food safety systems, HACCP and quality management systems
• Experience managing audits, non-conformances and customer requirements
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication skills and ability to influence across all levels of the business
• HND or Degree in Food Science, Food Technology or a related discipline
• Experience supporting customer audits and retailer requirements
• Knowledge of UK food legislation and industry standards
