Job description

The UK’s largest manufacturer of PCD (Polycrystalline Diamond) and carbide cutting tools, servicing high‑performance sectors such as aerospace, automotive, motorsport and advanced materials, is looking for a Technical Sales Engineer to join the team on a hybrid basis in the Midlands or Southern regions. Along with a basic salary of about £45,000 per annum, you will also receive a performance bonus, a company car/car allowance and a range of benefits.

What you’ll be doing as Technical Sales Engineer

You will act as a key interface between customers’ engineering and production teams, taking responsibility for identifying customer needs, proposing tailored tooling solutions, and ensuring successful implementation and ongoing support. This role combines technical expertise with commercial acumen to drive growth and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities
Sales & Customer Engagement
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective customers across the designated sales area.
  • Conduct site visits, technical consultations, and presentations to understand customer requirements and propose solutions.
  • Prepare and deliver detailed quotations, proposals, and ROI analyses for tooling solutions.
  • Create and maintain a strong opportunity pipeline within CRM.
  • Negotiate sales in alignment with company goals.
Technical Expertise
  • Analyse customer machining processes and recommend optimal PCD/carbide tooling strategies.
  • Collaborate with design and production teams to develop bespoke tooling solutions.
  • Provide post‑sales technical support, including troubleshooting and performance optimisation.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, materials, and machining technologies.
Project Management
  • Manage customer projects from initial enquiry through to delivery and aftercare.
  • Maintain accurate records of customer interactions, project milestones, and feedback using CRM systems.
  • Coordinate internal resources to ensure timely delivery and quality assurance.
Market Development
  • Identify new business opportunities in emerging markets and sectors.
  • Contribute to marketing and product development strategies based on customer insights.
Qualifications
  • Degree or HND in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in technical sales or applications engineering within the tooling or precision manufacturing sector.
  • Strong understanding of cutting tool technologies, especially PCD and carbide.
  • Experience in aerospace, automotive, or motorsport manufacturing environments.
  • Ideally, familiarity with CNC machining, CAD/CAM software, and process optimisation.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and a strong understanding of machining strategies.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
  • Proficiency in CRM software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Willingness to travel regularly across the UK and occasionally abroad.
