Job description

Quality Assurance Executive - BRC Auditing, Food Safety & Hygiene

Location: Newbury
Salary: £45,000 - £55,000 (DOE)
Hours: Monday-Friday, 7:30am-4:00pm (no evenings or weekends)

Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Quality Assurance Executive to join a growing food manufacturer with strong BRC accreditation standards. This role is ideal for a quality professional who has led BRC audits, understands food hygiene and auditing practices, and has experience in ambient or fresh food manufacturing environments.

This is a Quality Assurance position—not Quality Control. The QA team ensures checks are carried out correctly, oversees compliance, audits processes, and safeguards food safety across the site. Technical food knowledge can be developed internally; what matters most is strong QA discipline, auditing capability and food safety understanding.

Key Responsibilities
Quality Assurance & Compliance
  • Lead and manage BRCGS audits, ensuring full site compliance with accreditation standards.
  • Conduct internal audits against BRC, HACCP and company quality procedures.
  • Maintain and update quality management systems, records, and documentation.
  • Ensure QA checks are completed correctly by production teams and **escalate** non-conformance where required.
  • Support continuous improvement of site quality processes and standards.
Food Safety & Hygiene
  • Oversee food hygiene, site cleanliness, and sanitation processes.
  • Verify cleaning regimes, environmental monitoring, and micro testing schedules.
  • Ensure allergen controls, traceability, and food safety procedures are followed.
  • Provide training and support to teams on quality, hygiene and safety standards.
Testing, Auditing & Data
  • Manage micro testing regimes and interpret results to identify risks and trends.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and support corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Prepare reports on audit findings, non-conformances, and improvement actions.
  • Support NPD and production trials which may require early starts or later finishes.
Skills & Experience Required
  • Experience leading BRC audits in a food manufacturing environment.
  • Background in ambient, fresh food, or FMCG manufacturing.
  • Strong understanding of food hygiene, micro testing, sanitation, and quality auditing.
  • Ability to influence production teams and maintain high standards of compliance.
  • Excellent communication, attention to detail, and organisational skills.
  • Comfortable working in a hands-on, fast-paced food production setting.
Qualifications
  • Food Science degree or similar is preferred, OR substantial food quality experience.
  • Level 3 HACCP (Level 4 desirable).
  • Internal Food Auditor qualification and practical auditing experience.
  • Additional food safety / hygiene training beneficial.
Working Hours & Benefits
  • 7:30am - 4:00pm, Monday to Friday.
  • Occasional early starts for trials and late finishes for cleaning verification.
  • Competitive salary of £45,000 to £55,000, depending on experience.
Why Apply?
  • Join a well-established manufacturer with robust BRC standards.
  • Supportive environment where technical knowledge can be trained and developed.
  • A stable weekday schedule with no shift work.
