Job summary

Quest Global in the United Kingdom is seeking a Technical Publications Engineer to develop high-quality installation manuals, user guides, and other technical documentation for aerospace and defense projects. You will collaborate with design, manufacturing, and product teams to ensure accuracy and clarity.

You will interpret mechanical drawings and BOMs, create 2D/3D illustrations, and ensure documentation meets national and international standards, using Solid Edge or equivalent tools.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field; equivalent experience.
  • Experience with rotating machinery in engineering design environments.
  • Experience in heavy engineering, power transmission systems, gears and gear boxes.
  • Knowledge of quality standards (AS9100, ISO 9001).
  • Proficient in root cause analysis and failure mode analysis techniques.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

As a Technical Publications Engineer, you will be responsible for developing high-quality technical documentation, including installation manuals, user guides, and other technical writing requirements. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate, clear, and user-friendly documentation that meets customer and organizational standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Author and update installation manuals, maintenance procedures, service manuals, engineering change documentations and Assembly and disassembly instructions and any other client facing technical documentation.
  • Interpret mechanical drawings, CAD models and BOMs to develop user centric documentation
  • Collaborate with design engineers, manufacturing, and product teams to understand product functionality
  • Develop content for 2D/3D illustrations using tools such as Solid Edge or equivalent
  • Work within customer processes, systems, equipment, and facilities, including the maintenance of standards, procedures, processes, and SOPs in accordance with national standards, international standards, and customer requirements.
  • Support project meetings, supplier meetings, and customer meetings providing updates and support on metallurgy function related issues as required.
Required Skills (Technical Competency)
  • Strong technical writing and editing skills
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and 3D models
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and mechanical assembly
  • Proficiency in authoring tools
  • Strong attention to details and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Candidate should be familiar with structural design practices and methodologies
  • Experience in designing mechanical components, parts, assemblies and subassemblies for heavy industry, power transmission systems, gear and Gear box
  • Knowledge about subsystems that impact the mechanical design / layout of the design.

Proficient in 3D CAD package for both modelling and drawing, ideally Solid Edge

Requirements
Work Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field or equivalent experience
  • Experience in engineering design role/environment involving rotating machinery
  • Experience in heavy engineering industry, power transmission systems, gears and gear box
  • Appreciation of bolted joint analysis, shock assessment in relation to geared transmission systems
  • Strong knowledge of quality management systems and industry standards (e.g., AS9100, ISO 9001)
  • Proficient in root cause analysis and failure mode analysis techniques.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong focus on quality and continuous improvement.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
