Technical Project Support Engineer

Technical Project Support Engineer with IET – GTET will be responsible for technical support of customer or project issues. This can include design, electrical/mechanical issues, project support, technical support or a field service or other service request. Contributes to the development of an operational plan for own department activities of the team. Suggests improvements in products, processes and procedures. Supports team in all technical aspects including sourcing parts, materials, labor, services, etc. Candidate will also be required to assist with quality and HSE management and/or issues.

As a Technical Project Support Engineer, you will be responsible for:

  • Assisting the HGI team’s H&S and environmental agenda, ensuring a robust and proactive H&S and environmental system is in place and regularly maintained in line with business goals and legal requirements.
  • Assisting the HGI project managers in the management of major projects, predominantly in the telecoms resilience sector but may include other major projects as the business requires. Helping to maintain a clear project plan and driving execution to deliver to the project budget and goal in areas such as gross margin, timeline, customer service etc. This will include:
    • Internal management by influencing HGI employees.
    • Direct control of third‑party contractors where deployed to execute projects in the field.
  • Supporting the HGI team in managing escalated technical issues affecting the relationship with major/key account customers including:
  • Acting as point of contact for key account customers’ technical experts as required to manage ongoing relationship issues and resolve without the need for HGI sales and customer decision maker involvement.
  • Proactively working with selected key customer contacts to identify ways to enhance the relationship and improve HGI’s product and service offer.
  • Working with the HGI team to prepare for periodic account review meetings with key customers and attend these to develop a proactive technical agenda with these clients.
  • Providing Technical and Operational support and input into contract negotiations and tenders in order to retain existing business and win new customers for the HGI team.
  • Reviewing and documenting the existing telecoms and special projects installed base and identify opportunities to improve the performance of these networks as well as HGI’s capability to support optimally.
  • Assisting in managing the activities and performance of HGI service technicians in the HGI workshop and field based to achieve planned KPI performance.

  • Bachelors in Engineering (good to have)
  • NEBOSH qualified (or equivalent with supporting experience) – Optional / any H&S qualification is a “nice to have”
  • At least 3 years’ experience in project management in a field involving multiple sites and from civils to final commissioning.
  • PMP certified (not mandatory)
  • Preferred experience in a customer facing role.
  • Experience negotiating contracts and resolving disputes within contractual terms.
  • Strong organizational skills, efficient in use of their time and resources.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Sound problem‑solving skills based on managing multiple, often competing constraints.
  • Good data manipulation and analytics skills.
  • Computer literate – working knowledge of Microsoft Word/Excel/Outlook/Data Bases.
  • The job may require an element of working out‑of‑hours, overnight stays, overseas travel and weekend work where necessary.
  • Should have permanent work permit in U.K.
