We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our Environmental Health Residential Team as a Technical Officer.

This is a rewarding role for someone who is passionate about improving housing conditions, protecting public health and making a real difference to people's lives. Working within a busy and supportive team, you will help deliver a high quality service to residents, landlords, partner agencies and other stakeholders, contributing to the Council's commitment to ensuring safe, healthy and well managed homes across the Ashfield.

The successful candidate will undertake a varied workload covering a range of private sector housing functions, including investigating housing complaints, inspecting residential properties, supporting HMO and licensing activities, assisting with enforcement work and working with landlords and tenants to improve housing standards. You will work on matters that have a direct impact on the health, wellbeing and quality of life of local residents.

We are looking for an individual who is proactive, customer focused and able to deal with a wide range of situations professionally and effectively. You will be an excellent communicator with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive relationships while confidently dealing with challenging circumstances when required.

Experience of working within housing, environmental health, regulatory services, property management or a related field would be advantageous. Knowledge of housing legislation, HMO standards, licensing schemes and private sector housing issues is desirable, although training and development opportunities will be available for the right candidate.

A commitment to teamwork is essential, together with the ability to analyse information, investigate complaints, maintain accurate records and make informed decisions. You will need to be well organised, capable of managing a varied workload and able to prioritise competing demands while maintaining a high standard of service delivery.

This is a demanding but highly rewarding position offering the opportunity to develop specialist housing and environmental health knowledge while helping to improve housing conditions and public health outcomes within our communities. No two days are the same, and you will play an important role in supporting some of the Districts most vulnerable residents.

If you are looking for a challenging and rewarding career where you can make a genuine difference and develop your professional skills within a progressive Environmental Health service, we would love to hear from you.
