Job summary

Derby Homes, owned by Derby City Council, manages around 12,500 properties and employs over 600 staff. The Technical Officer will support Repairs & Maintenance, coordinating across teams and contractors to ensure repairs are delivered efficiently.

You will need strong communication, safety awareness, and the ability to interpret drawings and contracts. The role is initially temporary for 12 months, with potential for permanency.

Derby Homes are an organisation owned by Derby City Council who manage and maintain approximately 12,500 properties in Derby employing over 600 members of staff. The diverse workforce covers office based and mobile workers including housing management teams, specialist support workers and a repairs and maintenance team.

You will be part of a team that helps complete over 40,000 repairs a year, coordinating across the different teams within Repairs & Maintenance and the wider organisations.

If you are a 'can-do' person, who is passionate about delivering excellent customer service you might well be the person we are looking for. You will need good communication skills, be able to take control of situations and resolve problems, be enthusiastic, friendly and be able to work well in a team.

This role would suit someone working in a customer focused role and working with our trades and contractors with transferrable skills. The role requires an understanding of how contracts operate and be able to interpret drawings and their requirements. You will also be required to give support to our repairs surveying team. You don't need experience working in social housing, but a knowledge of current housing issues and housing legislation would be beneficial.

The role is initially offered on a temporary position (12 months), however it is envisaged the role will be reviewed during the term and made into a permanent position.

As a member of the Derby Homes Team you will need to be:
  • Understanding of Health and Safety and in particular working with scaffolding
  • Committed to providing excellent customer service and offer technical assistance
  • Able to use your own initiative and also work as part of a team
  • Have good communication skills, between trades, contractors and our tenants
