Michael Page Engineering & Manufacturing is seeking an experienced Technical Manager for a large FMCG manufacturing site in the UK. You will lead all technical and quality assurance activities, maintain world-class food safety standards and drive continuous improvement across the site.

You will manage a team, oversee audits, and liaise with customers on technical matters to ensure compliance with retailer requirements.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in technical or quality leadership in food manufacturing.
  • Strong knowledge of HACCP, BRC standards, food legislation and retailer requirements.
  • Experience managing and developing teams.
  • Ability to influence stakeholders across all levels of the business.
  • Strong audit management experience, including customer and third-party audits.
  • Excellent communication, decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in chilled foods or ready meals manufacturing is advantageous.
  • Hands-on leadership style for a fast-paced environment.
  • Degree in food-related discipline (advantageous).
  • HACCP level 4.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the site's technical and quality agenda across the manufacturing site.
  • Manage HACCP programme and lead HACCP Team.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, quality and legal requirements.
  • Lead customer relationships on technical matters and represent the business at KPI meetings.
  • Prepare for customer, retailer and third-party audits as primary audit contact.
  • Ensure compliance with BRC standards and retailer codes of practice.
  • Oversee quality assurance and validation teams, set objectives and metrics.
  • Investigate food safety incidents and implement corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with Production, NPD and Process Development teams to meet requirements.
  • Support continuous improvement programmes and site systems development.
  • Drive proactive food safety culture across the operation.

Client Details

Our client is a leading UK food manufacturer operating multiple production sites and supplying a diverse range of chilled food products to major retailers and foodservice customers nationwide. Producing millions of products each week, the business has built a strong reputation for quality, innovation and operational excellence, supported by significant ongoing investment in its people, facilities and processes.

The Wrexham operation is a large-scale manufacturing facility supplying some of the UK's best-known retail brands. The site plays a key role within the wider group and offers an exciting environment for ambitious food industry professionals.

Description

Reporting to the Head of Technical, the Technical Manager will be responsible for leading all technical and quality assurance activities across the manufacturing site. This position is accountable for maintaining world-class food safety, quality and compliance standards while driving continuous improvement initiatives and developing a high-performing quality function.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and developing the site's Food Safety Management System and HACCP programme.
  • Acting as HACCP Team Leader and ensuring compliance with all relevant food safety, quality and legal requirements.
  • Managing customer relationships on technical matters and representing the business at customer KPI meetings.
  • Leading preparation for customer, retailer and third-party audits, acting as the primary audit contact.
  • Ensuring compliance with BRC standards and retailer codes of practice.
  • Overseeing quality assurance and validation teams, setting objectives and performance measures.
  • Investigating food safety incidents, complaints and microbiological issues, implementing effective corrective actions.
  • Working closely with Production, NPD and Process Development teams to ensure products meet customer and regulatory requirements.
  • Supporting continuous improvement programmes and the ongoing development of site systems and processes.
  • Driving a proactive food safety culture across all areas of the operation.

  • Experience within chilled foods or ready meals manufacturing would be highly advantageous.
  • A hands-on leadership style with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.
  • Degree qualified (or equivalent) in a food-related discipline (advantageous)
  • HACCP level 4
