Are you a Technical Manager or Technical Supervisor with experience of Readymix / concrete products? Is your experience gained within a manufacturing / industrial site? Do you enjoy optimising both cost and performance whilst keeping health and safety as your number one priority? If so, this may be the role for you.

We are currently looking for a Technical Manager (HS2 Readymix) to manage the regional technical team based out of our Tarmac M6 Coleshill site. This key role is responsible for managing the multi-product technical department for a specific area - HS2 and overseeing aspects of product quality and resource efficiency. As well as Coleshill, this role is easily accessible from Birmingham, Castle Bromwich, Tamworth, Coventry, Redditch, Warwick, Bromsgrove, Solihull and the surrounding areas.

Role Responsibility

Reporting directly to the General Manager - RMX Midlands, the role of Technical Manager (HS2 Readymix) will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operation of the quality assurance function within HS2. Managing a team of 6, you will engage with the HS2 Project Manager and oversee all aspects of product quality and resource efficiency, actively promote Quality Management to ensure that all products meet the required standards and provide a comprehensive and proactive technical support to management and customers in the region.

As Technical Manager (HS2 Readymix) you will also be responsible for:

  • Representing the Company to customers on technical and quality issues
  • Proactively driving product development and the optimise programme
  • Ensuring a zero-harm culture within the technical department
  • Supporting HS2 management team in developing Technical and Quality excellence
  • Effectively ensuring material quality is consistent across the Midlands region and meeting the high level of compliance expected with all Quality Assurance requirements
  • Provision of full and effective testing processes in accordance with standards and accreditation
  • Managing and directing your technical teams including the supervision, coaching and development and succession planning of employees
  • Establishing and maintaining efficient designs for all finished products with consideration of quality, production and economic factors
  • Maintenance of trial mixes, BOMs, SAP material files
  • Effective handling of customer complaints through investigation of cause and appropriate reporting
  • Supporting and leading relevant internal and external audits
The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate for the role of Technical Manager (HS2 Readymix) will have a relevant degree or Diploma in Concrete Studies, City and Guilds Concrete Technology and Construction (similar) or equivalent working experience. You will also possess a strong working knowledge of aggregates and Ready Mix (RMX) concrete products and their applications as well as good appreciation of EN206 standards and specifications.

Suitable candidates for the role of Technical Manager (HS2 Readymix) will also have:

  • Proven knowledge of added value products and production process requirements and technical operations for concrete
  • Proven understanding of both Technical and Commercial drivers for the Readymix markets, with demonstrable ability to translate these drivers into projects, initiatives and actions that bring bottom line benefits and optimise processes
  • A sound understanding of delivery on financial measures
  • Proven people management skills and the ability to effectively manage conflict
  • Confidence to represent Tarmac and present at meetings
  • Proven ability to influence and persuade others
  • Appetite for problem solving and able to demonstrate a solution focussed approach
  • Excellent planning & organising skills
  • Resilience
  • Working knowledge of analytical techniques used i.e. CUSUM, OCL
  • Excellent understanding of quality assurance systems and procedures
  • Strong customer knowledge and awareness
