Technical Safety Engineer – Oil & Gas, Chemical, Distillery & Alternative Energy (UK)
Risktec, part of the TÜV Rheinland Group, is recruiting an experienced technical safety engineer with a minimum of three years of relevant experience. The role is based in one of its UK offices (Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Warrington or London) and may involve travel within the UK and abroad.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and qualify sales opportunities and build sustainable relationships with existing and new customers through the provision of technical expertise.
- Lead and coordinate technical safety projects nationally and internationally across a wide range of facilities and plant, processes and operations.
- Conduct safety cases, HSE management system reviews, ALARP assessments, SIMOPS and other detailed hazard identification activities (HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, Bowtie, etc.).
- Prepare and manage functional safety studies (FSA, FMECA, Fault Tree analysis) and consequence modelling (PHAST, FRED).
- Carry out QRA and other technical safety studies (BRA, EERA, ESSA, FERA, facility siting studies) using commercial software (SAFETI, SHEPHERD).
- Handle large‑scale CFD projects using HPC and cloud computing, RAM studies, DSEAR/ATEX and hazardous‑areas classification.
- Write proposals, coordinate bids, plan projects and manage project schedules.
Qualifications & Skills
- Relevant science or engineering degree.
- Strong analytical and numerical skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Minimum of three years’ experience in technical safety or a closely related field.
- Broad experience across safety-related domains is acceptable; specific expertise in at least one of the listed disciplines is preferred.
