Technical Manager / Estimator

I am seeking a highly skilled Technical Manager / Estimator with a strong engineering background to join a growing Fabrication SME based in Chippenham. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast‑paced environment where every team member makes a tangible impact. Reporting directly to the General Manager, you will combine your technical expertise with commercial awareness to manage customer enquiries, oversee workflow in the Production Office, and ensure projects are costed, planned, and delivered to the highest standard.

Key Responsibilities
  • Take ownership of customer quotation requests, from interpreting engineering drawings through to producing accurate costings and proposals.
  • Utilise SolidWorks to review, verify, and create technical drawings.
  • Build detailed Bills of Materials (BOMs) and source materials, ensuring competitive pricing and reliable lead times.
  • Coordinate workflow within the Production Office, balancing priorities to meet customer deadlines.
  • Support and mentor team members, helping to build capability within a small but highly effective team.
What We're Looking For
  • A solid engineering background (mechanical, manufacturing, or related discipline).
  • Experience working in an SME environment.
  • Strong technical skills, including proficiency in SolidWorks and familiarity with ERP systems (Sage or similar).
  • Exceptional attention to detail when working with technical drawings, quotations, and costings.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects under pressure while maintaining high standards.
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset, comfortable engaging with customers and suppliers.
  • Knowledge of quality management and compliance standards in engineering/manufacturing environments.
