Overview
Hitachi Energy’s Grid & Power Quality Solutions & Service business in Europe seeks an experienced Commissioning Supervisor to lead site‑based commissioning activities across Grid Integration projects. The role guarantees safe, compliant execution of commissioning work while supporting Site Lead Commissioning Engineers and overseeing site teams following EHS and Quality Policies.
Location
Remote, with occasional visits to the Birmingham office and UK/EU client sites. (No visa sponsorship available.)
Responsibilities
- Site Leadership & Coordination: Supervise, allocate, and coordinate daily commissioning activities for site‑based teams and sub‑contractors; interface regularly with Site Lead Commissioning Engineers to plan, execute, and track tasks; organise and schedule resources across the site portfolio.
- Technical Delivery: Oversee commissioning execution (secondary/primary injection, functional testing, energisation, handover) for LV and HV equipment up to 400 kV at substations and offshore platforms; develop, review, and maintain commissioning schedules in coordination with Site Leads and Project Manager; support preparation, review and control of inspection and test plans, commissioning documentation and procedures.
- Reporting & Communication: Provide daily/weekly progress reports on Safety, Quality, Time, and Cost to the Department Commissioning Manager; communicate issues, risks, non‑conformances and proposed solutions to site teams and project management; liaise with suppliers, vendors, manufacturers and other engineering teams.
- Continuous Improvement: Capture lessons learned, support development of standard procedures and promote a culture of continuous improvement within site commissioning activities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or above in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- 5+ years of experience in commissioning Grid/Substation projects, with hands‑on execution and team management.
- Demonstrated knowledge of site safety and commissioning practices for LV and HV (≤400 kV).
- Strong understanding of inspection and test methods (secondary/primary injection, functional testing).
- Excellent communication, team‑leadership and scheduling skills.
- Experience with reporting tools and commissioning documentation systems; proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Excel, Word, etc.) and Microsoft Project or similar tools for developing commissioning schedules.
