Job summary

CreateFuture in Leeds is seeking a Tech Lead to drive architecture, delivery and hands-on engineering across client projects. You will mentor engineers, set standards, and oversee end-to-end delivery while collaborating with clients at multiple levels to maximise business value.

You will lead architecture, design and code reviews, champion modern practices, and guide teams through challenging technical decisions in a dynamic consultancy environment.

Qualifications

• Proven, hands-on technical leader delivering complex software.

• Commercial experience with .Net and Java or frontend.

• Skilled in difficult conversations and actionable feedback; set clear standards.

Role Title: Tech Lead - .Net and Java
Department: Engineering

Role Summary
As a Tech Lead at CreateFuture, you will use your technical and leadership skills to lead
and support diverse client projects. Depending on the engagement, this includes
hands‑on coding, software architecture, solution design or delivery leadership and project
management, ensuring a high standard of delivery in everything we do.

You will also manage a team of technical direct reports, who are themselves working on
client projects, for whom you will provide actionable feedback, technical guidance and

You will work with clients at every level to understand their problems, set expectations,
and maximise business value, representing CreateFuture as an engagement lead.

Role Requirements

• Proven, hands‑on technical leader delivering complex software.
• Demonstrate thought‑leadership; supporting our clients and colleagues to understand, through modern technology and process, what is possible for their business/craft.
• Line‑manage a team of engineers while maintaining personal delivery contributions.
• Commercial experience with .Net as well as Java or frontend).
• Commercial experience with at least one major cloud (Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform) and modern infrastructure practices (containers, continuous integration/continuous delivery, infrastructure as code).
• Strong delivery fundamentals: estimation, planning, and risk/issue/dependency management; escalates early with clear options and impacts.
• Communicate designs and trade‑offs clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Skilled in difficult conversations and actionable feedback; sets clear standards and holds people accountable.

Desirable

• Tailor ways of working (Scrum or Kanban) to context and drive continuous improvement.
• Experience in change transformation projects that involved significant Artificial Intelligence adoption.
• Breadth across multiple languages or disciplines (e.g., Rust, test automation, DevOps/platform engineering).
• Experience across multiple clouds and cloud‑native services.
• Contribute to recruitment and pre‑sales in a consultancy context.
• Represent CreateFuture in the external tech community.

Role Responsibilities

Technical leadership:

• Ensure actionable backlogs and realistic plans; communicate timelines and team shape needs.

People leadership (enable, unblock, hold to account):

• Guide direct reports to set themselves clear personal goals, and hold them accountable for realising them.
• Proactively remove impediments across technical, process, and organisational boundaries.
• Hold colleagues accountable for commitments and standards; address performance issues promptly.
• Provide targeted guidance and feedback; recognise achievements.
• Line‑manage direct reports; run core rituals (team meetings, 1:1s, objectives, reviews).
• Contribute to hiring.

Client leadership:

• Build trusted relationships at all levels; translate business needs into technical plans.
• Manage expectations and scope; articulate value and trade‑offs; identify follow‑on opportunities.
• Represent CreateFuture as the engagement lead.

Optional/community:

• Contribute to delivery practices and standards.
• Contribute to pre‑sales.
