Job description

Title: Engineering Technical Lead – AI & Software Development

We are recruiting on behalf of our client, a growing technology business with offices in Liverpool, who are looking for an experienced Engineering Technical Lead to take technical ownership of their Engineering team.

This is a great opportunity for a hands‑on technical leader who combines strong software engineering experience with a commercial mindset and genuine interest in how technology can help drive the wider business forward.

Our client is particularly interested in someone who is already comfortable using AI development tools and can help the wider Engineering team make better use of them. They are currently using Claude Code, although experience with other AI tools is equally relevant.

The Role

As Engineering Technical Lead, you will provide technical leadership across the Engineering team while remaining hands‑on with technology.

You’ll work closely with colleagues across Engineering, Sales, Marketing and other areas of the business, ensuring that technical decisions are aligned with customer needs and wider commercial objectives.

This isn’t a role for someone who wants to sit several layers removed from the technology. You’ll still be getting involved in architecture, development and technical problem‑solving, while also helping shape the team's approach to AI‑assisted development and engineering best practice.

Key Responsibilities
  • Take technical leadership and ownership across the Engineering team.
  • Remain hands‑on with software development, architecture and technical problem‑solving.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentoring and support to Engineers.
  • Help shape the technical roadmap and contribute to wider business strategy.
  • Work closely with Sales, Marketing and other business functions.
  • Translate customer and commercial requirements into effective technical solutions.
  • Introduce and promote AI tools and AI‑assisted development practices across the Engineering team.
  • Train and mentor Engineers in the effective use of AI development tools.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and identify opportunities to improve development processes.
  • Ensure engineering standards, architecture and development practices continue to evolve.
  • Help create a collaborative, innovative and high‑performing Engineering culture.
Skills and Experience Required
  • Demonstrable commercial software engineering experience.
  • Previous experience in a senior engineering or technical leadership position.
  • Strong understanding of modern software development, architecture and engineering practices.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • A strong commercial outlook and an understanding of how technology decisions impact the wider business.
  • Experience working collaboratively with departments such as Sales and Marketing.
  • Proven experience using AI tools within software development.
  • Confidence in coaching and training other Engineers in AI‑assisted development.
  • A pragmatic, hands‑on approach and a willingness to get stuck into technical challenges.
  • Previous experience working for a Salesforce ISV or within the Salesforce ecosystem.
  • Experience with Salesforce alongside strong software engineering skills.
  • Experience working within a smaller, entrepreneurial technology business.
  • Previous experience leading or mentoring an Engineering team.
  • Experience with Claude Code, ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot, Gemini or similar AI development tools.
What's on Offer
  • Opportunity to take genuine technical ownership of a growing Engineering team.
  • A hands‑on leadership role where you can influence both technology and wider business strategy.
  • Significant opportunity to shape how the organisation uses AI across Engineering.
  • The chance to train and develop the Engineering team in emerging AI technologies.
  • Exposure to the wider commercial side of the business, including Sales and Marketing.
  • Collaborative and entrepreneurial working environment.
  • Liverpool-based role with flexible hybrid working.
  • 3 days per week in the Liverpool office preferred, with flexibility to consider a minimum of 1 day per week for the right candidate.
  • Candidates based elsewhere in the UK will be considered, provided they are able and willing to travel regularly to Liverpool.
  • An opportunity to join a growing business at an exciting stage of its development.
