Job description

We are looking for an individual who is enthusiastic, compassionate, hardworking and keenly motivated to join our well-established and innovative occupational therapy team, within the occupational therapy department at Guild Lodge.

You will be part of a team working alongside service users and staff to promote the importance of engagement and occupation.

As a technical instructor based and working within a secure environment, your role will focus on developing good working relationships with service users – identifying their interests and supporting their pathway through secure services. Predictable structure routine as well as the protective factors of occupation play an integral part of a service user’s journey within Guild Lodge.

We have a range of excellent environments and opportunities for service users – namely a large Therapeutic Resources Centre & Sports Hall (that includes pottery, art rooms, a library, kitchen and gym/sport facilities) as well as the Tarnbrook Vocational Unit (which includes metal and woodwork as well as silversmithing, horticulture and IT resources). We also access and use community facilities.

We always support and encourage our staff through personal development and appraisal and value the importance of regular supervision. This is an excellent chance to gain a range of really good skills in a fantastic environment!

Please be aware that this role is not eligible for sponsorship.

As a member of the Occupational Therapy (OT) service, you will assist with specified duties and take some responsibility for your own work within a broad framework laid down by an OT. The post will require specialised expertise and involve responsibilities over and above those normally expected of a Technical Instructor.

As part of the OT Service the job holder will be required to work across men’s, female and Forensic Brain injury service lines, including medium secure, low secure and step‑down units.

The jobholder will be required to provide individual and group interventions in a variety of environments (ward, hospital & community-based facilities). Service requirements may occasionally involve some flexibility of work.

LSCFT values diversity and inclusion, recognising that talent from varied backgrounds creates a flexible, creative, and effective workforce. We actively challenge discrimination and welcome applications from all, regardless of age, disability (including those with experience of accessing or caring for someone who has accessed mental health or learning disability services), ethnicity, gender, religion, belief, or sexual orientation.

Our aim is to reflect the communities we serve, so we particularly encourage applications from under‑represented groups. If you’d like to discuss your application, please let us know.

We also welcome individuals with lived experience relevant to the role or service area, as your insight brings authenticity to our services.

LSCFT supports flexible working; we believe that a positive work/life balance benefits NHS employees through improved health and wellbeing. We would consider working patterns such as term time, part time, compressed hours and flexi‑time.
