Polypipe Building Products are focused on delivering solutions to the residential sector.

Polypipe Building Products works with national and local developers, plumbing and heating engineers, general builders and groundworkers to deliver above and below ground drainage systems, rainwater solutions as well as hot and cold plastic plumbing products.

Part of the Genuit Group, we combine long-term stability with a culture built on teamwork, accountability and continuous improvement.

We encourage fresh ideas, invest in development and are committed to creating a safe, inclusive and supportive workplace where everyone feels like they belong.

Role:

The Technical Estimator plays a central role in delivering accurate, compliant, and commercially focused designs and quotations for Underfloor Heating (UFH) and/or Drainage systems.

This role provides trusted technical support to a wide range of customers from homeowners and installers through to merchants, developers, and national housebuilders ensuring every project starts with the right design, the right information, and the right solution.

Technical Estimators add real value by driving specification, supporting sales conversations with credible technical insight, and ensuring all outputs meet CCPI standards.

Through clear designs, transparent product information, and proactive quote management and follow‑up, the role directly contributes to customer confidence, stronger conversion, and long‑term growth for Polypipe Building Products.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Design: Interpret architectural drawings, UFH layouts, and site drainage plans to produce accurate take‑offs.

Create UFH pipe layouts and drainage material schedules in line with technical standards and building regulations.

Ensure all designs meet Future Homes Standard expectations and Polypipe design guidelines.

Validate design integrity, identify potential installation issues, and highlight risks early.

Apply value‑engineering principles where appropriate to optimise performance and cost.

Technical Support: Provide pre‑quotation technical advice to merchants, developers, contractors, and internal teams.

Respond to queries on system design, installation requirements, and product suitability.

Support Technical Sales with solutions for complex or bespoke UFH and drainage projects.

Assist colleagues in resolving specification gaps, drawing inconsistencies, or missing information.

Maintain strong working knowledge of Polypipe UFH and drainage product ranges to support customer needs.

Commercial Knowledge: Produce accurate and timely quotations aligned with customer requirements and project scope.

Understand pricing structures, product margins, and commercial implications of design decisions.

Identify opportunities for upselling, cross‑selling, or offering enhanced system solutions.

Ensure quotations support profitable growth whilst remaining competitive in the market.

Maintain accuracy across all bills of materials, pricing checks, and supporting documentation.

Workflow & Internal Support: Manage workload effectively to meet SLAs and support fast-paced commercial and technical activity; maintain accurate project history and quotation records within CRM and internal systems; provide smooth handovers to the Technical Design team for won UFH and drainage projects; support continuous improvement in processes, templates, and estimating tools; work collaboratively with Technical Sales, DBAM, Customer Experience, and Operations to deliver a seamless customer journey.

Sales Generation: Support the sales pipeline by producing clear, accurate, and timely quotes that improve conversion rates; highlight opportunities for additional Polypipe product ranges within UFH and drainage quotations; work closely with Technical Sales to identify high‑potential projects and ensure quick turnaround; ensure customers receive professional, technically sound proposals that enhance Polypipe’s reputation and strengthen relationships; contribute to upselling and cross‑selling efforts by recommending appropriate system enhancements or complementary products.

Skills & Experience:

Experience working in a Technical Estimating design role.

Low‑Temperature Heating trained, with a solid understanding of modern heating system design principles.

BPEC accredited (or working towards), ideally in plumbing, heating, or renewable technologies.

CAD experience, including reading, interpreting, and working with architectural and M&E drawings.

Proven experience producing UFH and/or plumbing/drainage take‑offs, schedules, or estimates.

Strong technical product knowledge across UFH systems, plumbing components, and drainage solutions.

Understanding of Building Regulations, Future Homes Standard expectations, and relevant industry standards.

Experience working in a technical, estimating, design, or engineering environment within construction or building products.

Confident interpreting technical specifications, heat‑loss information, and layout plans.
