Job description

We are seeking an experienced case law editor to join our Global Editorial Operations Cases organisation. This individual contributor role combines traditional legal editorial expertise with emerging GenAI quality review responsibilities. The role holder will primarily focus on writing and reviewing UK Law Reports headnotes whilst contributing to GenAI summary evaluation and broader editorial projects. The ideal candidate will possess a meticulous eye for legal accuracy and style, demonstrate sound editorial judgment and show an active interest in AI-assisted content workflows.

Responsibilities
  • Write high-quality headnotes for publication across the UK Law Reports portfolio, ensuring legal accuracy, completeness, adherence to house style, and delivery within agreed timelines.
  • Revise and quality‑assure head notes prepared by others, ensuring consistency with editorial and style standards; provide constructive feedback to enhance quality outcomes.
  • Monitor and flag issues relating to anonymisation, reporting restrictions or other factors that may impact reportability or publication risk.
  • Contribute to case selection, ensuring cases chosen for publication align with editorial criteria.
  • Edit and style material in the relevant format, using templates where relevant.
  • Work collaboratively with the UK Law Reports team to meet scheduling needs whilst continuing to meet editorial, stylistic and functional standards.
  • Review and rate GenAI case summaries to agreed timelines.
  • Support project initiatives, including testing, training, mentoring and contributing to the continuous improvement of editorial processes and AI‑assisted workflows.
  • Apply subject‑matter expertise to improve the quality of legal content, serving as an editorial authority and legal SME within the team.
Qualifications
  • Experience in legal publishing, case summarisation, or editorial roles, with a strong understanding of UK case law.
  • Exceptional written English and editorial precision, with the ability to understand, navigate and present complex legal materials clearly and accurately.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively across teams, including product, technology and operations colleagues.
  • Familiarity or awareness of LLM providers (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, etc.) and prompt engineering desirable.
  • Highly detail‑oriented and organised, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • A law degree or equivalent qualification required.
