Job summary

Oxford Instruments plc in Severn Beach/Bristol area seeks a Technical Author to create and refine highly technical documentation, prioritising validation and review. You will collaborate with engineers across departments to ensure accurate, timely content and adhere to document control procedures.

The role requires on-site presence at least three days per week and offers opportunities for professional growth within a collaborative global team.

Qualifications

• A recognised technical authoring qualification (ISTC, NVQ, Diploma) or equivalent experience.
• Minimum two years' experience in a technical author role.
• Proficiency with MadCap Flare, FrameMaker or Adobe Acrobat.
• Experience writing procedures for operation and maintenance of technical products.
• Experience in semiconductor, electro-mechanical or scientific sectors preferred.
• CAD software experience is helpful.
• Knowledge of document control: branching, versioning and reviews.

Responsibilities

• Publish customer manuals using Framemaker and Flare.
• Develop clear, concise technical documentation for users.
• Validate technical details with engineers through testing in the lab.
• Peer-review content produced by teammates.
• Edit CAD drawings and imagery used in docs.
• Respond to product queries with engineers and managers.
• Follow internal document version control and branching processes.
• Maintain Health and Safety standards.
• Collaborate within a diverse, inclusive team environment.
• Be on-site a minimum of three days per week.
