Job summary

WSP is seeking a Technical Director to lead the structural engineering aspects of major energy infrastructure projects in the UK. You will guide design delivery, drive technical excellence, and manage multi-disciplinary teams across substations, OHL, and power stations.

The role offers hybrid working, opportunities for leadership across national projects, and collaboration within a global consultancy. You will mentor engineers and engage clients to ensure delivery excellence.

Qualifications

• Chartered Engineer (CEng) with a recognized professional body.
• Significant experience in structural engineering design and project leadership.
• Experience in substations, transmission and distribution, OHL projects, or power stations.
• Strong commercial awareness and client-facing skills.
• Excellent communication and leadership capabilities.

A little more about your role…

As a Technical Director you will take a senior leadership role in the delivery of structural engineering services for major energy infrastructure projects. These include Transmission and Distribution networks, Overhead Line (OHL) systems, power stations, and other critical energy assets.

You will be responsible for leading project teams, managing client relationships, and driving technical excellence and innovation across our portfolio.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

• Chartered Engineer (CEng) with a relevant professional body.
• Significant experience in structural engineering design and project leadership.
• Ideally, experience in one or more of the following:
  • Substations
  • Transmission and Distribution infrastructure
  • Overhead Line (OHL) projects
  • Power stations
  • Petrochemical facilities
• Proven ability to manage complex projects and lead multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong commercial awareness and client-facing skills.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement capabilities.
