Job summary

Facade Today is seeking a technically proficient Technical Design Manager / Senior Façades Designer to lead the design and coordination of high-rise recladding projects from our Potters Bar office. You will manage the façade design process, review detailed designs in AutoCAD, and coordinate rainscreen systems, EWI, brick slips and curtain walling.

You will mentor and develop the design team, coordinate with architects, engineers and subcontractors, and ensure builds comply with Building

The Opportunity

Hill McGlynn are currently working with an established specialist façade contractor who are looking to appoint an experienced Technical Design Manager / Senior Façades Designer to join their team, based from their offices in Potters Bar, Hertfordshire.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced façade design professional with a strong background in the high-rise recladding sector to take a senior position within the design function.

The successful candidate will have experience working across a range of façade and building-envelope systems, including rainscreen cladding, brick slips, EWI, decking, curtain walling and windows, alongside experience supporting the preparation and coordination of Building Safety Regulator (BSR) submissions.

You will also play an important role in the management and development of Design Team members, providing technical guidance and ensuring projects are delivered to the required design, compliance and quality standards.

The Role

As Technical Design Manager / Senior Façades Designer, you will take responsibility for the design and technical coordination of façade and recladding projects, while supporting and managing members of the wider design team.

Key Responsibilities Will Include

• Managing the façade design process across high-rise recladding projects.
• Producing and reviewing detailed façade designs using AutoCAD.
• Coordinating the design of rainscreen cladding systems, brick slips, EWI, decking, curtain walling and windows.
• Supporting the preparation, coordination and delivery of BSR submissions.
• Managing and supporting members of the Design Team.
• Reviewing drawings and technical information produced by internal designers and external specialists.
• Providing technical guidance, mentoring and support to less experienced members of the team.
• Coordinating architects, façade consultants, engineers, manufacturers and specialist subcontractors.
• Developing construction details and ensuring designs are practical, buildable and compliant.
• Reviewing architectural, structural and specialist design information to identify clashes and coordination issues.
• Managing design programmes and information release schedules.
• Responding to technical queries and RFIs throughout project delivery.
• Attending and contributing to design, client and project meetings.
• Working closely with project, commercial and site teams to resolve design and buildability issues.
• Ensuring designs meet project specifications, Building Regulations and relevant building-safety requirements.
• Supporting projects throughout design, construction, installation and handover.

About You

We are looking for an experienced Technical Design Manager or Senior Façades Designer with specialist knowledge of high-rise recladding and façade systems.

You Will Ideally Have

• Previous façade design experience within the high-rise recladding sector - essential.
• Experience preparing, coordinating or supporting BSR submissions - essential.
• Strong AutoCAD skills - essential.
• Detailed technical knowledge of rainscreen cladding systems, brick slips, EWI, decking, curtain walling and windows.
• Previous experience managing and supporting Design Team members.
• Strong understanding of façade interfaces, detailing and buildability.
• Experience coordinating multidisciplinary consultants and specialist designers.
• Good knowledge of Building Regulations and the regulatory requirements affecting high-rise and higher-risk buildings.
• The ability to review and technically challenge drawings and design information.
• Strong problem-solving and design coordination skills.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder-management abilities.
• A proactive and organised approach to managing design deliverables.
• Experience using Revit and/or Rhino3D would be beneficial.
• A relevant construction, architecture, engineering or design qualification would be advantageous.
