Job description
Overview

We're working with a highly respected engineering business that designs and manufactures pressure vessels, pressure pipework, and heat exchangers for a range of industrial sectors. The company is well established, recognised for its engineering excellence, and offers a professional and collaborative working environment.

The Opportunity

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Technical Contracts Engineer to join their team in Brownhills. This is a key role within the business, responsible for managing the technical and commercial elements of projects from enquiry through to completion. You'll play a pivotal part in ensuring each contract runs efficiently — meeting customer specifications, budget expectations, and delivery deadlines.

The role would suit someone with a strong engineering background, excellent attention to detail, and confident communication skills — someone who enjoys technical problem-solving and coordination within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities
  • Manage incoming project enquiries, reviewing technical specifications and requirements.
  • Break down enquiries into materials, labour, consumables, and tooling.
  • Collaborate across departments to gather information for accurate quotations.
  • Prepare costings and estimate man-hours.
  • Process client purchase orders and raise internal POs for materials and subcontract services.
  • Monitor and report on project budgets and contract milestones.
  • Create detailed work packages and distribute project documentation to relevant departments.
  • Liaise with QA and Production teams to ensure on-schedule delivery.
  • Provide technical assistance and resolve engineering queries throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Assist in the design and introduction of jigs, fixtures, and new equipment into production.
  • Support continuous improvement and process development within the engineering function.
About You
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in a technical or engineering environment.
  • Level 3 or higher qualification in engineering (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Strong knowledge of engineering principles and manufacturing processes.
  • Confident in reading technical drawings and applying trigonometry in practical tasks.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and 2D CAD software.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Security Clearance Requirement: Due to the nature of the work, this position is only open to British nationals eligible for UK Government security vetting (UKSV). Applicants must meet nationality and clearance criteria before employment can commence.

  • Opportunity to work on a diverse range of specialist engineering projects
  • Monday - Thursday: 8.00am - 4.30pm; Friday: 8.00am - 1.30pm
