BMI UK&I has an exciting permanent opportunity for a Technical Compliance Manager to join our team. Reporting to the Technical & Compliance Director, this role is based in Milton Keynes.

Role Summary

The Technical Compliance Manager will play a critical role in supporting the Technical & Compliance Director, focusing on the strategic implementation and operational delivery of compliance initiatives across the organisation. This role is essential for safeguarding the company's operational integrity and reputation by ensuring all processes, systems and products meet regulatory standards and industry best practices. The role requires a high degree of autonomy in managing key compliance areas, developing policies and overseeing aspects of the field‑based compliance team, ensuring cohesive and effective compliance practices across all operations. The manager will also maintain a close working relationship with the Legal, Quality and Safety teams to ensure coordinated objectives and plans.

Regulatory Oversight & Policy

Monitor, interpret and communicate relevant legislation and standards, particularly UK&I regulations, health and safety, product and testing standards and quality management, to ensure adherence. Assist the Technical & Compliance Director in representing BMI in the development of industry technical standards. Develop, implement and maintain compliance policies and procedures, collaborating with cross‑functional teams to integrate these practices into daily operations.

Risk Management

Oversee and conduct regular risk assessments and audits to identify compliance gaps and potential risks within the organisation. Develop, manage and implement effective mitigation strategies and corrective action plans to address all identified compliance issues.

Leadership & Team Management

Provide guidance and support to relevant members of the field‑based compliance and Site Services teams, ensuring alignment with business objectives and compliance standards. Help drive collaboration across teams, ensuring the right people are involved in necessary conversations. Role model the BMI Winning Mindsets and hold self and others accountable for delivery and performance.

Site & Contractor Schemes Compliance

Take a leadership role in managing BMI UK&I approved contractor schemes (flat roofing) in terms of on‑boarding, continuous certification and maintenance of workmanship standards. Accountable for enhancing and maintaining company standards for carrying out site surveys and supporting the Site Technicians' smooth running and completion of projects. Manage the complaint inspection system for after‑sales complaints, including personal handling of high‑value complaints in agreement with line management.

Training & Development

Design, develop and sometimes deliver training programmes, supported by relevant experts, to educate staff on compliance requirements and best practices. Encourage and drive a culture of continuous improvement and compliance awareness throughout the organisation.

Stakeholder Engagement & Reporting

Liaise with internal stakeholders, industry associations and external auditors on compliance matters. Prepare and present detailed compliance reports to the Technical & Compliance Director and Senior Management, simplifying messages to ensure risks and required actions are clearly understood. Maintain accurate records of compliance activities and incidents.

Your key skills and experience will include:
  • Technical Knowledge: In-depth understanding of relevant regulations and standards applicable to the industry. Significant and proven on‑site experience dealing with roofing contractors in either pitched and/or flat roofing, with a broad base of practical and technical experience.
  • Leadership & Management: Proven leadership capabilities, including line management experience, to drive a culture of compliance and influence change across the organisation.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities to assess complex compliance issues and develop effective solutions.
  • Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to simplify and convey complex compliance information clearly to diverse audiences (internal and external).
  • Project Management: Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, including major complaint investigation and reparation works, while meeting deadlines and maintaining high‑quality standards.
  • Personal Attributes: Strong attention to detail, resilience, self‑motivation and a flexible, team‑player approach.
