About The Role

We’re looking for a capable and motivated Technical Buyer with strong technical knowledge and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic engineering environment. As Technical Buyer you will lead the procurement function within Malin Group and be responsible for the supply of goods and services, ensuring all technical, quality and delivery requirements are met.

Key responsibilities in this role:

  • Review and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and Bills of Materials (BOMs) to ensure accurate sourcing.
  • Identify, evaluate, and manage suppliers based on capability, quality, delivery, and reliability.
  • Manage day-to-day procurement activity to meet MRP demands and ensure on-time delivery.
  • Lead price and contract negotiations to secure favourable terms, costs, and schedules.
  • Create and manage purchase orders in line with company policies and compliance standards.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to understand project requirements and resolve queries efficiently.
  • Drive cost‑saving and supply chain optimisation initiatives to support business objectives.
  • Monitor supplier performance, manage risk, and address issues related to material quality, delivery, or pricing.
  • Support the development and continuous improvement of procurement systems and processes.
  • Support Bid and Proposal activities as required
  • Ensure compliance with company audit and record procedures by maintaining accurate and up to date documentation and processes.
Skills And Experience
  • Proven experience as a Technical Buyer within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to interpret technical specifications and have an understanding of manufacturing engineering standards.
  • Strong understanding of procurement processes, supply chain management, and MRP systems.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities with attention to detail.
  • Organised and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Highly competent user in Microsoft Office packages (Excel, Word, & PowerPoint).
Where You Will Be Working

We have two main office locations: our head office based at the iconic South Rotunda building on the South bank of the River Clyde, and our impressive welding and fabrication facility at Westway Business Park, Renfrew. You will spend the majority of your time at our welding and fabrication facility at Westway Business Park, mixed with occasional visits to South Rotunda. Flexibility of home working can be discussed at interview.
