Job Overview
The Technical Buyer is responsible for the procurement of complex engineered components and materials, combining commercial acumen with technical understanding. The role supports both ongoing production and new product introductions, collaborating closely with Engineering and Quality teams to ensure supplier capability, cost-effectiveness, and delivery performance.
Responsibilities
- Comply with all HSE requirements related to the role and work towards a zero-harm culture.
- Source and procure engineered parts such as PCBAs, machined components, custom magnetics, and subassemblies.
- Interpret and communicate technical drawings and specifications to suppliers.
- Work closely with Engineering to ensure purchased parts meet technical and functional requirements.
- Issue RFQs, assess supplier quotes, and lead commercial negotiations to drive value and cost savings.
- Manage supplier relationships, track delivery performance, and resolve issues.
- Support new product introduction (NPI) activities with timely sourcing and supply chain readiness.
- Contribute to supplier selection and qualification processes.
- Maintain accurate supplier and item data in Epicor ERP system (pricing, lead times, MoQs, etc.).
- Support PPV tracking and cost-reduction initiatives, including value engineering and alternate sourcing.
- Collaborate with Planning, Engineering, and Quality on BOM accuracy, lead‑time alignment, and risk mitigation.
- Ensure compliance with export/import regulations and customer‑specific requirements.
Qualifications
- Familiarity with aerospace or regulated industries.
- Experience in technical procurement within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
- Strong understanding of technical drawings and specifications.
- Proven ability to negotiate commercially while balancing technical and quality requirements.
- Comfortable working in a high‑mix, low‑volume environment.
- Experience using Epicor ERP for procurement processes.
- Excellent communication and cross‑functional collaboration skills.
- Understanding of sourcing strategies, cost drivers, and supplier development processes.
- Knowledge of import/export compliance and risk management desired.
- Attention to detail, self‑motivated, and outcome‑driven.
