Job Title: Technical Software Documentation Officer

Location: Bristol (5 days per week on-site)

Duration: 12 months (plus extension)

Rate: £65 per hour (via Umbrella)

About the Role

An exciting opportunity for a proactive and organised Technical Software Documentation Officer to support several software development teams within a leading defence organisation. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys multi-tasking, coordinating technical activities, and being at the centre of software delivery and project management.

You’ll play a key part in helping development teams plan, document, configure, and deliver fully qualified software products - ensuring compliance with high-reliability and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support multiple projects through the full software lifecycle.
  • Maintain and manage software documentation, configuration data, and release records.
  • Interface directly with software engineers, project leaders, and test teams.
  • Assist with planning, coordination, and delivery of integration artefacts.
  • Ensure all software activities meet internal and regulatory process standards.
  • Support process improvement and drive adherence to best practices across teams.
About You
  • Background in software process or lifecycle management within a regulated or safety-critical environment (e.g., defence, aerospace, automotive, or medical).
  • Understanding of software engineering principles and project management processes.
  • Excellent organisational skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Confident communicator, comfortable liaising across multiple teams and departments.
  • Enthusiastic about working in software and open to future progression into project management.
