We specialise in producing high-quality technical documentation services for mechanical engineering companies and original equipment manufacturers (OEM) in the automotive and rail transportation industries.

Role Description

We are seeking a full‑time Technical Author for a hybrid role based in Knutsford, Cheshire. In this position you will collaborate with mechanical engineering companies and original equipment manufacturers (OEM) to create and revise technical documentation, such as operation, maintenance and overhaul manuals. You will work closely with key stakeholders to plan, develop, and refine technical documentation and ensure all content is accurate, clear and user‑friendly. The role may involve occasional travel to customer sites to gather information and support documentation development.

Qualifications And Experience (required)
  • A relevant Bachelor's degree or HND qualification (or equivalent) is preferred, but not essential
  • Equivalent professional experience will also be considered
  • Proven skills in technical documentation, technical communication, and technical writing are essential
  • A solid understanding of engineering principles and concepts, with the ability to understand complex technical information and translate it into clear and concise documentation
  • Minimum two years’ experience in a technical authoring/writing role
  • Proficiency in DITA structured XML authoring, CCMS, Microsoft Office Suite, and/or other documentation and design tools
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
  • Comfortable liaising with customer engineering and project management teams.
Qualifications And Experience (beneficial, Not Essential)
  • Technical illustration skills (Adobe Illustrator or equivalent)
  • Experience in transportation, aerospace or automotive industries
  • Hands on mechanical proficiency.
