As a Technical Author at Marshall Land Systems, you will play a key role in creating and maintaining a wide range of technical publications, ensuring all deliverables meet our standards for quality, cost, and schedule.
This role is primarily based on-site in Cambridge, with occasional international travel required to support project activities and stakeholder engagement.
The successful candidate will be required to be eligible to obtain UK MOD SC (security clearance).
Responsibilities in this role will include:
- Producing high-quality Technical Publications in compliance with relevant standards, using approved authoring tools and software.
- Ensuring all publications and illustrations meet customer requirements for operation, maintenance, and repair documentation.
- Reviewing and verifying all content to ensure accuracy, particularly with regard to safety, hazard, and caution statements.
- Delivering all Technical Publications on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
- Providing technical publication guidance across the business and supporting formal project reviews.
- Attending customer meetings as required, ensuring expectations are met and positive relationships are established early.
- Monitoring and reporting task progress, highlighting issues, risks, or resource constraints to the Line Manager.
- Coordinating the translation of overseas customer publications through approved translation partners to maintain quality and consistency.
- Sharing lessons learned and best practices to drive continuous improvement across the team and wider business.
- Mentoring and supporting less experienced colleagues, fostering professional development within the team.
- Providing technical publications support and advice to project teams to ensure documentation requirements are fully met.
- Supporting the Technical Publications Manager / Senior Specialist to ensure all publication deliverables are completed efficiently and in line with project schedules.
- Participating in validation and verification activities (such as Ease of Maintenance Assessments, Logistic Demonstrations, or customer-defined events).
- Promoting and adhering to company values, processes, and procedures, as well as Health, Safety, and Environmental legislation and best practice.

- Experience of Technical Authoring to challenging timescales.
- Good planning and organisation skills.
- Enhanced communication skills.
- Planning and delivery to schedules, at time, cost and quality.
- Appreciation of Def Stan 00-600, especially Def Stan 601 Part 4.
- Development of Technical Publication solutions.
Knowledge/Experience of:
- All MS Office Products, especially MS Word and any specialist Authoring Software such as Eagle EPS, Arbortext Editor, MadCap Flare, FrameMaker etc.
- ASD S Series Technical Publications and ILS standards.
- Military publications such as AESP (Def Stan 00-601 Parts 1-4), Air Publications or IETPs (ASD S1000D).
- Configuration Management and Documentation Control.
