Job summary

Inspire People in the United Kingdom is seeking a Senior Technical Architect to lead the technical strategy for services, champion secure cloud solutions and ensure alignment with business goals. You will guide technical specialists across projects, shape designs and drive governance with Architecture Review Boards within a hybrid delivery model.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience designing and delivering secure cloud solutions using AWS and/or Azure.
  • Experience producing high-level designs and taking them through governance, including Architecture Review Boards or Technical Design Authority.
  • Ability to work closely with development teams to translate high-level designs into practical low-level designs aligned to standards.
  • Proven ability to lead technical teams and deliver user-focused services within agile environments.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • A core architecture skillset, with additional experience in one or more specialist areas such as AI-focused architecture, cloud-focused architecture, application-focused architecture, or ERP-focused architecture.
  • SC clearance eligibility, which requires being present in the UK for 3 out of the past 5 years.
  • We cannot sponsor Skilled Worker visas.

Responsibilities

  • We define and champion the technical strategy for services, ensuring alignment with user needs, business goals and DDaT standards.
  • We lead technical specialists across multiple projects, solving complex architectural challenges and owning the technical design of services.
  • We design and assure secure, open-source and user-centred systems, including integration, interoperability, cloud quality, security and performance.
  • We provide technical governance, present designs to boards such as the Technical Design Authority, and collaborate with architects across DBT to ensure alignment.
  • We horizon scan for emerging technologies, contribute to the architecture community, mentor peers and support capability development within the profession.
  • We shape the technical direction of services from early discovery through to live operations.
  • We contribute to portfolio-level strategy and governance to help shape the future of digital delivery at DBT.

We are the Department for Business and Trade, and we are recruiting 4 experienced Technical Architects to support major digital and technology programmes. We offer a salary of £67,867 to £85,413, excellent Civil Service benefits and a 29% employer pension contribution. We work flexibly in a hybrid model from London, Cardiff, Darlington, Edinburgh, Belfast, Birmingham or Salford, with around 40% office attendance each month and flexible or condensed hours available.
