Job summary

Oxford Nanopore Technologies seeks a Technical Applications Scientist for Europe & UK. Based in Oxford (Hybrid), you will combine scientific expertise with customer support to help researchers implement nanopore workflows.

You will provide first-line support across the sequencing workflow, assist with experimental design, data analysis and validation, and collaborate with internal teams to ensure a seamless customer experience. Prior NGS knowledge and excellent communication are essential.

Qualifications

• BSc degree (or equivalent) in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Life Sciences, or related field.
• Strong knowledge of NGS, genetics and molecular biology.
• Clear communication of technical concepts.
• Proactive problem-solving approach.
• Excellent organizational skills with ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Customer-focused with strong interpersonal skills; additional European language (C1+) advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Provide first-line applications support via email, phone and live chat.
• Troubleshoot technical and application queries and identify customer needs.
• Assist customers with experimental design, workflow implementation, validation and data analysis.
• Collaborate with internal technical, commercial and product teams to deliver excellent customer experience.
• Document customer interactions and technical information in CRM systems.
• Escalate complex issues to ensure timely resolution and satisfaction.
• Build relationships with scientists and researchers as a trusted technical partner.

Working Pattern: 3 days onsite, 2 days remote (5 days onsite during initial training period)

The Role

This is an exciting opportunity to combine your scientific expertise with outstanding customer support. Working within a collaborative, cross-functional team, you'll provide technical guidance and application support to customers using Oxford Nanopore products and workflows.

You'll play a key role in helping researchers successfully implement our technologies, from experimental design and product installation through to data analysis and workflow optimisation. Your work will help strengthen customer relationships and support the success of groundbreaking scientific research around the world.

What You'll Be Doing

• Provide first-line applications support across the Nanopore sequencing workflow via email, phone, and live chat.
• Troubleshoot technical and application-related queries, identifying customer needs and delivering effective solutions.
• Support customers with experimental design, workflow implementation, validation, and data analysis.
• Collaborate with internal technical, commercial, and product teams to deliver an exceptional customer experience.
• Accurately document customer interactions and technical information within our CRM systems.
• Escalate complex technical issues where appropriate, ensuring timely resolution and customer satisfaction.
• Build strong relationships with scientists and researchers, acting as a trusted technical partner

What We're Looking For

• BSc degree (or equivalent experience) in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Life Sciences, or a related scientific discipline.
• Good understanding of next-generation sequencing (NGS), genetics, molecular biology, cell biology, and related fields.
• Strong scientific curiosity and the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and confidently.
• A proactive approach to problem-solving and troubleshooting.
• Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Customer-focused with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Proficiency in an additional European language (C1 level or above) would be advantageous.
