Overview

We welcome flexible working patterns for all our vacancies, including job share. The team you will join is the Monitoring Data & Systems Team (MDS). We manage important environmental monitoring systems and datasets. You will join a multi‑disciplinary team supporting and learning from colleagues while analysing and improving data that underpins our work. The Technical Officer helps manage these systems and data and provides support to users. You will fulfil a multi‑purpose role, working on our Water Quality systems and data, but will be expected to support other systems and data as needed. You will work closely with team members and can expect to be involved in the following responsibilities:

Responsibilities
  • Set up and manage users
  • Support users and resolve issues, especially when moving to our new My Environment application
  • Update, improve and maintain datasets
  • Respond to internal and external data requests
  • Support system improvement and upgrade projects
  • Participate in incident response duties when required
Qualifications
  • Experience working with large complex datasets
  • Motivated, organised, friendly, helpful, detail‑oriented, comfortable working in a dispersed team environment
  • Proactive and enjoys solving problems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to convey complex technical information to both technical and non‑technical audiences
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships, deliver through others and provide excellent customer service
  • Experience using and managing environmental monitoring data systems (desirable)
  • Experience using PowerBI, Access, Excel, Python, SharePoint Online and R (desirable)
  • A working knowledge of water quality monitoring (desirable)
