Job summary

Low Carbon Contracts Company is seeking a senior finance professional to lead technical accounting for new and existing schemes, liaising with NAO, DESNZ and ARAC. You will own accounting policy development, prepare statutory accounts and the annual report, and support audit sign-off with a focus on IFRS compliance.

The role requires a recognised accounting qualification and strong IFRS/accounting policy experience, with hybrid working in London and an office requirement 2 days per week.

Role Summary
Lead technical accounting for new schemes and changes to existing schemes. Work closely with the Finance Settlements Manager, Finance Schemes & Reporting Partner, Financial Advisors and Audit, Risk and Assurance Committee (ARAC).
Key Responsibilities
The role's key responsibilities, covering both LCCC and ESC, are outlined below. This overview is not exhaustive. As schemes grow, responsibilities may change. LCCC reserves the right to assign other duties commensurate with the role as required.
  • New Schemes Accounting – Lead the accounting treatment and reporting implications of new schemes, engaging with National Audit Office (NAO), Financial advisors, DESNZ (and othergovernment Departments) and ARAC.
  • New schemes & Regulation – Represent Finance in the development and implementation of new schemes, ensuring regulatory and contractual requirements are translated into appropriate accounting treatments, accounting policies and financial reporting considerations.
  • Audit, Risk and Assurance Committee (ARAC) and board papers – Write papers on changing accounting policy changes, estimates and significant judgements, and other ad hoc papers requested by ARAC.
  • Audit management – Manage and lead LCCC and ESC year-end and interim audits, coordinating LCCC Finance, wider internal teams, EMRS, Forecasting and the National Audit Office.
  • Accounts preparation – Own the preparation and technical content of the LCCC and ESC statutory accounts and Annual Report, including accounting policies, disclosures, significant judgements and estimates, ensuring successful Board approval, audit sign-off and publication.
  • Annual report structure - Review financial statement disclosures to streamline presentation, reduce duplication and improve stakeholder clarity, and present recommendations to ARAC, the Board and the National Audit Office.
  • Year end Government reporting – Shared responsibility with Finance Schemes & Reporting Partner for submissions connected to year end (counterparty, non-TB etc.).
  • Stakeholder & Relationship management: Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including auditors, government bodies (including Treasury), generators, suppliers and outsourced providers, to support settlement accounting, statutory reporting and technical accounting activities, ensuring proactive engagement and no surprises.
  • CfD valuation and modelling (discounted cashflow model) – If required, support the preparation of annual valuations for statutory reporting, providing technical challenge and oversight of methodologies and assumptions. Work with the Finance Settlements Manager, Finance Schemes & Reporting Partner and Analytics team to ensure robust, auditable valuations that support disclosures and audit requirements.
  • Government Submissions - Share responsibility with the Finance Schemes & Reporting Partner and the wider finance team for submissions connected to year end (counterparty, non-TB etc.).
  • Work closely with DESNZ and manage their reporting requirements, including Annual Report disclosures and accounting papers.
  • Team support – Update the Finance team on IFRS changes and support technical accounting queries from operational teams.
Skills Knowledge and Expertise
Essential
  • A recognised accounting qualification such as ACCA, ACA or CA.
  • Extensive experience in technical financial accounting; industry or practice experience applying IFRS 9 Financial Instruments is desirable.
  • Experience managing audit processes and preparing full IFRS accounts.
  • Strong knowledge of financial accounting principles, regulations and reporting standards.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
  • Proficient with financial systems and tools; advanced Excel skills.
  • Proven ability to identify process improvements and implement solutions.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels.
  • Self-motivated and proactive, able to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
Desirable
  • Knowledge of the CfD, CM or similar renewable energy support mechanisms.
  • Experience reviewing complex financial models, challenging assumptions and tracing them to their regulatory or contractual source.
  • Ability to interpret regulations and convert them into accounting policy and valuation inputs.
  • Experience in disclosure review or restructuring annual reports, taken through audit committee or board-level governance.
