Job summary

EPAM Systems in London seeks a Senior Data Engineer - Tech Lead to shape cloud-native data platforms using Azure Databricks, PySpark and Lakehouse principles. You will lead architecture, drive modernization, and mentor engineers while delivering scalable pipelines for high-volume workloads.

You will collaborate with stakeholders to translate business needs into robust data solutions, implement CI/CD, IaC, and governance, and advance AI-enabled analytics initiatives across the team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field.
• Extensive experience designing and implementing production-grade platforms using Azure Databricks.
• Expert PySpark knowledge with emphasis on optimization and data skew mitigation.
• Strong Python programming skills and modern software design principles.
• Experience with Delta Lake, Delta Live Tables and structured streaming.
• Proficiency with cloud-native services on Azure and multi-cloud awareness (AWS/GCP).
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD and IaC tools (Terraform, GitHub Actions, Jenkins).
• Proven ability to lead teams, define epics/user stories and deliver in agile environments.

Responsibilities

• Lead architecture, design and build of large-scale data platforms using Azure Databricks.
• Develop and optimize ETL workflows and streaming pipelines with PySpark and Delta Live Tables.
• Improve performance, manage cloud costs and ensure platform reliability for high-volume workloads.
• Define data governance, security and quality standards across the platform.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
• Integrate with Azure-native services like Data Factory, Synapse and Blob Storage.
• Mentor engineers, promote best practices and conduct technical reviews.
• Drive CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code and automated testing in data environments.
• Implement observability and monitoring with Databricks Workflows and related tools.
• Contribute to AI-driven initiatives using Databricks ML/MosaicML for Generative AI.
