Job summary

A technology consultancy is seeking an experienced Principal Engineer / Tech Lead for a contract role. This position requires leading a small engineering team, making architectural decisions, and managing the end-to-end software development lifecycle within a hybrid environment based in Canary Wharf. The ideal candidate will have strong full-stack engineering skills, experience in team mentoring, and knowledge in infrastructure automation and containerisation.

Qualifications

• Experience as a Principal Engineer or Tech Lead in SaaS environments, ideally in financial services.
• Strong background in full-stack engineering.

• Solid understanding of modern infrastructure automation and containerised services.

Contract Role: Principal Engineer / Tech Lead

Outside iR35 | 5 days per week | Canary Wharf (Hybrid)

Target Start: Week commencing 8 December

We are seeking an experienced Principal Engineer / Tech Lead for a contract engagement within a SaaS‑focused environment, ideally with financial services exposure. The successful candidate will lead technical direction and mentor a small engineering team while ensuring high‑quality delivery across the full development lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a small team of engineers, providing technical guidance and support.
• Own architectural decisions and produce technical specifications to support backlog creation and delivery.
• Drive end-to-end SDLC ownership, including test strategy, test automation, and release management.
• Leverage AI tools and techniques within the SDLC to improve engineering velocity.
• Contribute across the full stack: front‑end, middleware, and backend/data services.
• Manage infrastructure considerations across public cloud and on‑prem environments, with strong emphasis on containerisation (Kubernetes).

Requirements

• Several years' experience as a Principal Engineer or Tech Lead in SaaS environments (FS desirable).
• Strong full‑stack engineering background.
• Proven experience in team leadership/mentoring.
• Solid understanding of modern infrastructure automation and containerised services.
