Team Manager – Children & Young People with Disabilities (CYPD)

Location: Barking
Salary: £57,402 – £61,653 + £2,500 Recruitment & Retention Allowance (Permanent | Full Time)

Barking & Dagenham Council is seeking an experienced Team Manager to lead their Children & Young People with Disabilities (CYPD) Social Work Service. You’ll oversee a team of six Social Workers delivering statutory safeguarding, CIN, CP and court work to children with complex needs and disabilities.

The council is committed to high support and high challenge, working relationally and ensuring the lived experience of children is central to all decision‑making. You’ll join a stable, permanent workforce with manageable caseloads, strong multi‑agency partnerships and an established culture of reflective practice.

About the Role
  • Manage and lead the CYPD Social Work Team delivering statutory services
  • Provide reflective supervision, annual appraisals and ongoing staff development
  • Ensure high‑quality practice, performance monitoring and case auditing
  • Allocate cases, oversee safeguarding plans and track case progression
  • Chair complex strategy meetings and support staff preparing for multi‑agency forums and court
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with statutory guidance
  • Contribute to service planning, operational instructions and practice development
  • Manage team budgets, approve expenditure and ensure value for money
  • Work collaboratively across council services and external partners
  • Promote evidence‑based, relationship‑based practice at all times
About You
  • Qualified Social Worker with Social Work England registration
  • Substantial post‑qualifying experience in statutory safeguarding
  • Proven management or supervisory experience within children's services
  • Strong understanding of legislation, statutory guidance (including Working Together)
  • Skilled in performance management, analysing data and driving quality
  • Excellent communicator with strong interpersonal skills
  • Confident chairing multi‑agency meetings and leading complex decision‑making
  • Able to motivate staff, manage change and promote inclusive, strengths‑based practice
  • IT literate and confident using electronic case management systems
