Job summary

Brook Street is seeking a Team Leader for a children and young people’s home in the United Kingdom. You will lead shifts, support a dedicated team and help create stability, safety and positive moments for young people aged 8–18.

You’ll oversee safeguarding, risk and behaviour, coordinate staff coverage, and ensure high-quality, child-centred care aligned with care plans and risk assessments. Sleep-in duties apply and progression toward Level 4 qualification is supported.

Qualifications

• Experience of working with children or young people in residential care, social care, education, youth work or similar.
• Strong safeguarding commitment and ability to promote children's welfare.
• Ability to lead shifts and make decisions confidently.
• Solid understanding of safeguarding, risk assessment and behaviour support.
• Emotional resilience and calmness under pressure.
• Clear written and verbal communication and accurate record-keeping.
• Ability to escalate matters to management when needed.
• Professional boundaries, reliability and flexibility.

Responsibilities

• Lead allocated shifts and help ensure the home runs safely and effectively day to day.
• Deliver high-quality, child-centred care in line with individual care plans, risk assessments and assessed needs.
• Provide day-to-day leadership to Residential Support Workers, coordinating duties and staffing according to needs and risks.
• Maintain safeguarding, risk and behaviour oversight during shifts and escalate concerns appropriately.
• Support routines, appointments, education, activities and other opportunities for young people.
• Guide staff through incidents and changes in children’s circumstances with constructive feedback.
• Monitor staff records, incident reports and other required documentation.
• Run effective shift handovers to communicate key information clearly.
• Promote positive behaviour, independence, confidence and emotional wellbeing.
• Build trusting, professional relationships with young people and listen to their wishes.
