Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Team Leader Radiotherapy Radiographer to join our Specialist Treatment Radiotherapy team covering both our Adaptive and SABR service. The Trust invites applications from enthusiastic, forward-thinking radiographers with a keen interest in service development, training delivery and a passion for team working.

The Royal Surrey Cancer Centre is focused on providing excellent patient pathways and patient-centred care. We strive to evolve with technical advances in Radiotherapy, including recent equipment replacements and planned developments in hypersight and tattoo-less radiotherapy. Our patients have access to ETHOS, Halcyon and TrueBeam units across two radiotherapy centres and planning and treatment capabilities including HDR, LDR and Papillon kV treatments.

Overview of the role

Main duties of the job: The purpose of this role is to undertake radiotherapy interventions at a team leader level to the highest professional and technical standards, working with Medical, Radiographic, Physics and Administrative colleagues, with a focus on Adaptive and SABR Radiotherapy. The postholder will be required to train colleagues in Adaptive and SABR Radiotherapy techniques and provide information, education, practical and emotional support to patients and carers during their radiotherapy episode. There may be the opportunity to participate in a rotational role within clinical governance, education or treatment coordination.

Location and service delivery: The Royal Surrey Cancer Centre Radiotherapy Department is based at the Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford and operates a satellite service from the East Surrey Hospital in Redhill. This post is based at East Surrey Hospital but will include attendance at both sites as determined by operational demand. Our satellite centre in Redhill is closely integrated with the main site and offers CPD opportunities and the chance to follow a patient throughout their treatment pathway. This role provides the opportunity to work in a smaller team and broaden clinical skills.

You will regularly participate in all aspects of radiotherapy activities and your role will focus on the management of your area of expertise. The postholder will be required to train colleagues inAdaptive and SABR Radiotherapy techniques. You will provide information, education, practical and emotional support to patients and carers during their radiotherapy episode. There may be opportunities to participate in a rotational role within clinical governance, education or treatment coordination. The post is based at East Surrey Hospital with attendance at both sites as determined by operational demand.

Our satellite centre in Redhill provides CPD opportunities and close links to the Research and Development Team and opening trials. This role offers CPD opportunities not always achievable in larger departments.

Qualifications and requirements

Essential

• MSc / BSc Radiotherapy/Therapeutic Radiography or DCR (T)
• HCPC Registration
• Evidence of continuous personal, professional and academic development

Knowledge

• Experience as a Band 6 Therapy Radiographer commensurate with progression to a Band 7 post
• Experience of working in a radiotherapy department on a wide range of radiotherapy equipment and specialised techniques
• Experience of collaborating with other staff groups outside Radiotherapy
• Use of computerised department record and verify systems

Desirable

• Participation in clinical governance activities
• Project management related to service improvement
