Job summary

Kedrion Biopharma in Elstree, Hertfordshire, is seeking a Team Leader for QC Chemistry to lead day-to-day quality control activities, ensure testing, compliance and safety, and drive continuous improvement within the QC team on-site.

You will oversee governance, materials management, training compliance, health and safety, and production of PQRs while maintaining GMP/GLP standards and strong stakeholder engagement.

Qualifications

  • BSc degree in a relevant scientific subject or equivalent combination of qualifications and experience.
  • 3-5 years' experience working within a laboratory environment.
  • Demonstrable experience and competence in managing and developing others.
  • Good working knowledge and understanding of GMP and GLP requirements.
  • Experience of raising, reviewing and investigating Quality Records (QRs), OOS results and invalid assay investigations.

Responsibilities

  • Governance: manage departmental stock levels, reagents, consumables and reference preparations to support testing and operations.
  • Oversee ordering and management of critical reagents; control IQC materials, performance trending and stock requirements.
  • Lead Operational Excellence initiatives and monitor project progress.
  • Coordinate departmental training compliance, including method training and safety requirements; ensure timely completion.
  • Support health and safety management through incident reporting and COSHH/risk assessment reviews.
  • Prepare and present Product Quality Review (PQR) reports and maintain lab housekeeping to ensure GLP/GMP compliance.
  • Materials: coordinate end-to-end processing, testing, release, and lifecycle management of raw materials and consumables; ensure OTIF delivery and traceability.
  • Rotational coverage across team areas as required due to operational needs; participate in coverage for leave.

Kedrion Biopharma have new and exciting opportunities for 2 x Team Leaders to join our Quality department within Chemistry & Raw Materials (Chemistry) on-site in Elstree, Hertfordshire.

As a Team Leader, you will lead and support the effective day-to-day delivery of Quality Control activities, ensuring testing, compliance, training, safety and operational priorities are completed to the required standards and timelines. The role provides leadership to the QC team, supports audit readiness, drives continuous improvement, and ensures that quality records, controlled documents, resources and processes are managed effectively to meet business and regulatory expectations.

Our site is not easily accessible by public transport so please take this into consideration when applying as this role is fully on-site.

What you'll do

Governance - Initial area of responsibility for this Team Leader, QC Chemistry role

Responsible for managing departmental stock levels, including reagents, consumables and reference preparations, ensuring materials are available to support testing activities and operational requirements.

Oversee the ordering process and management of critical reagents, while maintaining effective control of Internal Quality Control (IQC) materials, performance trending and stock requirements.

Lead and track Operational Excellence (OE) initiatives, supporting continuous improvement activities and monitoring project progress.

Coordinate departmental training compliance, including method training, health and safety requirements, policies, occupational health assessments and other mandatory activities, ensuring completion within required timescales.

Support health and safety management through action tracking, laboratory inspections, hazard and incident reporting, and maintaining oversight of COSHH and risk assessment reviews.

Provide support for sample approvals, prepare and present Product Quality Review (PQR) reports, and monitor laboratory housekeeping standards to ensure compliance and good laboratory practice.

Materials - Area of responsibility for this Team Leader, QC Materials, role

Responsible for coordinating the end-to-end processing, testing, release, and lifecycle management of raw materials and consumables to ensure OTIF delivery and compliance targets are achieved. Plans and prioritises departmental activities, maintains delivery and testing schedules, oversees sample and reference sample management, and ensures full traceability throughout the materials workflow. Supports quality and compliance activities by managing quality records, investigations, and system updates, while working with stakeholders to maintain training plans, monitor training metrics, and support continuous improvement across the department.

Each Team Leader willhave ownership of one specific area of responsibility from the following roles. You will be expected to carry out the above general duties of the Team Leader role as well as the specific requirements of the area assigned. You will be expected to have an understanding of each role, as you may be required to be rotated or reassigned between these different areas as and when operational requirements or business needsnecessitate, as well as cover for periods of leave, such as sickness and annual leave.

Qualifications and need-to-know
  • BSc degree in a relevant scientific subject, or equivalent combination of qualifications and relevant experience.
  • 3-5 years' experience working within a laboratory environment.
  • Demonstrable experience and competence in managing and developing others.
  • Good working knowledge and understanding of GMP and GLP requirements.
  • Experience of raising, reviewing and investigating Quality Records (QRs), Out-of-Specification (OOS) results and invalid assay investigations.
  • Demonstrable leadership and people management skills, with the ability to motivate, support and develop team members, delegate effectively, resolve conflict and manage employee-related issues.
  • Strong planning and organisational skills, capable of managing laboratory operations, sample workloads and staffing requirements while prioritising competing demands and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, influencing and negotiation skills, with the ability to engage and build effective relationships with stakeholders at all levels, including external partners and regulatory authorities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across functions and build productive working relationships both internally and externally.
  • For the Materials Team Leader, this role is based in both the labs and also in the Warehouse – requirement for 5 year reference checks applicable due to Warehouse access.
