About theteam:
This is an Operational management role. You will work as part of the Driver Management Team at Gloucester, reporting to the Driver Depot Manager as part of the Central Region Driver Management Structure.
About the job:
- You will be a key implementer in the Driver Management team focused on ensuring quick and efficient disposal of key tasks in the depot, as part of both business as usual or any ad‑hoc project work.
- You will develop close working relationships with all Driver Standards Managers in the depot and support them in delivering their part of the wider Depot Strategy.
- You will work closely with the Driver Depot Manager to ensure that all KPIs and objectives, set on an annual basis are achieved in a variety of key focus areas, as detailed below.
- Safety: you will be a key interface between the Driver Depot Manager and the Driver Standards Managers, facilitating various safety processes. You will take the lead in ensuring that incident trends and learning points are communicated to Drivers via various media. You will lead by example, in terms of safety, at all times.
- Performance: you will be the focal point for performance management in the depot, leading accurate delay attribution is delivered. You will liaise with the Driver Management team to ensure that you can collect all the necessary information and that performance own goals are being dealt with in a robust and consistent manner. You will identify performance trends and feed them through the Performance management meeting structure.
- Training: you will be the single point of contact in the depot to liaise with Training rosters and the Training Academy to ensure efficient and successful completion of training. You will be the focal point for the efficient and strategic deployment of career structure Drivers and Driver Standards Managers.
- Engagement: you will be a key part of the “face” of the management team, dealing with day‑to‑day queries in a “front‑of‑house” role and directing Drivers to the right people to help. You will play a key role in developing better communication channels with Drivers and ensure that information displayed at the depots is relevant, up to date and aligned with the Depot Strategy.
You’ll need to be:
- Highly organised and able to work to deadlines.
- Good at building relationships across different levels of the business.
- Able to communicate clearly over a variety of media.
- An effective multi‑tasker, able to deliver a number of KPIs simultaneously.
- A good motivator, who will take others with them.
- Focussed and driven to succeed.
As a minimum you’ll need to have:
- Previous managerial experience would be advantageous.
- Experience of delivering high performance in your current role.
- Experience of delivering training plans.
- Experience of working with Trade Unions.
- Experience dealing with HR processes.
- Experience dealing with the GWR delay attribution process would be advantageous.
