Job summary

The University of Cambridge is seeking a proactive workplace technician to manage and support the Department of Chemistry's lecture theatres and meeting rooms. You will ensure all equipment functions, assist with demonstrations, and help provide lecture materials.

Responsibilities include booking lectures, setting up AV, recording lectures with Panopto, and collaborating with the Teaching Office. Saturday mornings and outreach activities are part of the role during term time.

Qualifications

  • Science-related BTEC or equivalent.
  • Able to think clearly and quickly when under pressure.
  • Good communication skills and have the ability to deal with a wide range of people at all levels.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Experience in using audio-visual equipment and/or Panopto would be beneficial; training will be provided.

Responsibilities

Job description

This important role within the Department of Chemistry has responsibility for keeping the Department's five lecture theatres and five meeting rooms running smoothly, including ensuring all the equipment is working correctly, and when able, providing general assistance in a teaching laboratory. Also playing an active part in the exam process annually.


Duties include setting up all aspects of the lecture theatres and meeting rooms, managing the booking and scheduling of lectures and meetings, setting up and making sure the audio-visual is working in the theatres and rooms, assisting with demonstrations, providing lecture handouts, video capturing lectures using Panopto and collaborating with the Teaching Office.


Saturday morning working is required during term time and there will be a requirement to be involved in some outreach work.


With a science related BTEC or equivalent, the successful candidate will be able to think clearly and quickly when working under pressure, use their own initiative, have good communication skills, have excellent computer skills and have the ability to deal with a wide range of people at all levels. Experience in using audio-visual equipment and/or Panopto would be beneficial, as would experience of working in a chemical laboratory, although training will be provided.
