Children attending a pupil referral unit often present with social, emotional & mental health difficulties in students aged between Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 4. The role involves providing stability, education, and empowerment, considering each learner's individualised, differentiated learning styles to ensure social, emotional, and educational integration.

The initial assignment will assess your fit within the setting, requiring you to be fully committed and enthusiastic about making a difference in children's lives. You should be willing to use your own initiative to stand out. If your potential is recognized, the setting may offer a permanent position with a clear career progression plan.

Job Description:

  • Operate within agreed professional ethical and school policies when working with pupils and staff.
  • Encourage and support staff positively and use restraint training methods when faced with escalating behaviors.
  • Support pupils in overcoming crises and dealing with consequences.
  • Assist with the child's integration into the class/group.
  • Maintain good relationships with staff.
  • Empower pupils and encourage positive regulation of social and emotional skills.
  • Support the child's focus in class and help them complete their work.
  • Develop positive, trusting relationships with pupils.
  • Listen and offer appropriate support when needed.
  • Provide behavioral records and report as required.

Job Specification:

  • Must have at least 6 months solid experience working in a pupil referral unit, alternative provision, or similar setting.
  • Level one or above Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent.
  • Proactive approach and flexible in work patterns.
  • Team Teach training is desirable but training can be provided.
  • Competitive daily rate: £98-108.
  • Enhanced DBS subscribed to the update service or willingness to apply.
  • Competitive weekly pay (AWR compliant).
  • On-the-job training provided.
